First and foremost, instead of running the newest mobile operating system that was shipped by Microsoft five months ago - Windows Mobile 5.0 - the hw6500 is running Windows Mobile 2003. Since 5.0 is designed to overcome many of the shortcomings in WM2003 (as all major OS upgrades invariably do with respect to their predecessors), this decision, regardless of how it came to be, has in my opinion, set the device up to be a dud.

Who says things aren't better the second time around? The HP iPAQ rx1950 PDA attempts to fix the mistakes of its disastrous predecessor, the rz1710. The iPAQ rx1950, which runs Windows Mobile 5.0, rounds out the boxy form of its predecessor and at $300 (street), it's currently the most inexpensive device available with built-in Wi-Fi. PC Magazine put the PDA through its paces, and tell you if all the improvements make all the difference.
Outlook: The HP iPaq rx1950 fills a huge void in the company's lineup, satisfying consumers and business users who want more than the extremely basic iPaq rz1710 but don't need the bells, whistles, or expense of the HP iPaq hx2000 and hx4700 series. It'll give good competition to the Dell Axim X51.

HP wants to ensure that the functionality and overall customer satisfaction of the iPAQ product line is not compromised. The h6300 and hw6500 product lines are significantly more complex products that function on mobile operator networks. Mobile operator networks require stable product performance in order to maximize quality of service for their end-users. In some cases in order to maximize service performance with the new operating system, hardware changes are required.

Looks like PC Mag beat us all to the punch and has done a thorough review of the US version of the hw6515.. Looks like they are using the Navteq GPS software along with Cingular as the provider. Interesting to note they also are using the Goodlink software to give the end users the "Push Email" technology many of you have been asking for..Many of the issues they are experiencing or commented on I definitely disagree on and hopefully soon we will put up our own impressions of the hw6515 in the near future..
Well it looks as if the hw6515 must be getting close because Microsoft has now placed a landing page for the hw6515 with a bunch of goodies. You can actually take the hw6515 for a spin using the emulator or take a look at the device specifications.

Ok here is the scoop directly from Expansys. This is a UK version of the phone UNLOCKED.. You will receive Tom Tom GPS mapping software (remember you can pick one city and then you have to purchase whatever other maps you want) now I cannot confirm the Tom Tom maps are for US.
One of our members in the forums noticed this when searching hw6500 on hp's site. Could this mean we should be seeing the 6500 in the US soon?
Wow! All I have to say is if you want to see ALOT of pictures and comparisons here is the place to go! Mobile-Review has done a pretty extensive job looking at the UK version of this phone.. He writes, "We tested a prototype instead of a commercial version (an April version). The engineering example worked for half a day the maximum. We suppose this is due to the GPS receiver permanently on, it can't be switched off.

I am a big fan of Verizon and obviously will be doing a thorough review of the i-730 I thought it would be interesting seeing these two devices next to each other. The overall design of this new entry to the iPAQ world is terrific. The front has a great look that makes you feel comfortable right away. Today, I want to tell you about the rest of the exterior that truly was designed to complement the device.
Yesterday, I said "I love the form factor! As much as I like my 6315, it always feels a little big in my hand". When you look at the size specification, there really isn't much of a difference --- or is there? By the numbers, NO, but by the feel YES!
In this photo you will notice the new belt clip on the hw6500. Users should also notice the unit is almost identical in size. Those who question if this unit is smaller or bigger than the treo it is quite close..
As you can see in this photo HP is sticking a dagger right in the throat of RIM especially in form factor. This unit is identical in size compared to the Blackberry even in height and width. I actually prefer the keys better on the hw6500 compared to my Blackberry. Also in this photo you will notice how nice the screen protector lays on top of the screen..

I read an article on Investors.com written by John Dvorak a well respected technology analyst. Unfortunately I think John is a bit off line and should really understand where HP's market with this unannounced phone is... The enterprise.. John I am shocked at you of all people to comment on a device that hasn't officially been announced nevertheless base your professional opinion on speculation...Whats even worse for an Investors publication..What are your thoughts

Eventhough HP announced some information about the iPAQ Mobile Messenger an online store is already selling accessories for this unreleased iPAQ. What amazes me is that this device is not even available and companies are already selling accessories? Is this why some of us buy accessories and they dont work? Is it because the vendors actually never test the accessory?

Quite a cool device for the Mobile Gaming freaks!

Targeting one of the main culprits of battery consumption - the display - they've developed an energy-aware solution that dims parts of the screen that aren't in use. "Right now, there are only two things you can do to reduce the amount of power used by the display - you can dim the entire screen or have a smaller display.
Things have been quite crazy with this unofficial ROM for the 6315 iPAQ. A site is now SELLING this hacked ROM for $49.95 but a big sale for $34.99 ...I am bringing this out for one obvious reason.. This person is trying to make money off something that will be free! Dont buy into this scam...Here is a quote from their site
A word of warning. A circulating a ROM upgrade for the HP iPaq h6315 TMobile sku has been going around. This ROM has not been released by HP and will not be supported by HP's service centers should issues arise. I am warning you now that you will do damage to your iPAQ if you install this ROM.
I am very happy to hear that the hx4700 was named Best PocketPC Handheld for Business by CNet. HP's iPaq series continues to stand tall among Pocket PCs, and the company's latest high-end model is no exception. The HX4700 (also sold as the HX4705) has an innovative touch pad and a beautiful VGA
To strengthen its leadership in the fast-growing smart device market, HP will continue to evolve the HP iPAQ product line and build on the success of the award-winning iPaq 6300 series smart device. The new devices will incorporate several different types of wireless technologies and be offered in a variety of designs and sizes as they roll out through the year.
A PocketPCThoughts reader came up with a nifty hack for your 4705. This mod I came up with allows you to place your PPC at an angle in landscape orientation. I mostly use it to watch movies without having to hold the PPC in my hands or balance it between a book and any available weights -- usually the airline magazines on long plane rides.
I have been using my hx4700 for the past few weeks and wanted to run a poll to see ifyou use your Synaptics Touchpad on your hx4700 iPAQ?
I was browsing our store and noticed the new hx4705 is available for shipment. If you like the site and want to pass a little bit of a thank you order through us.
I dont know if this is a scam but I would be concerned if I were to bid on this. What cracks me up is they want 806 US Dollars for the iPAQ. The quote be the first one to own it and state it is not a reserve order though.
"We encourage the television production teams to use a variety of HP products - with an emphasis on digital photography, digital entertainment and mobility. That matches well with HP's consumer business initiatives," Selby added. "We focus on building relationships at the studios that give us the opportunity to showcase new HP technologies that might help with their specific TV show. An example would be putting iPAQ Pocket PCs in the hands of police officers or crime scene investigators."
After being away for several days (again), I had for the first time one of my iPAQ's lose all of its power. Fortunately, I had a backup that was very recent....
