The Essence of Coolness - SCOTTeVEST

On the right hand side, there are three layers of pockets all with the mesh fabric. The lower pocket is very large, big enough for a flashlight to be held unobtrusively. The second layer had a pocket that totally surprised me. Fastened with Velcro, it drops behind the lower pocket giving you enough room for a tablet computer, magazine, or any large item like a camera. The top pocket is great for sunglasses or your iPAQ. What is neat about this pocket is that you can enter it from the top or through a zipper located on the side. Just below the shoulder area is another pocket for smaller items; like a cell phone or a pager. Of course there is a zipper for added security.

On the left side there are two layers of pockets with a third hidden behind the lower layer. The bottom grouping of pockets consists of five small pockets that can be used for memory card storage, credit cards, etc. Behind this pocket there is a rather unique pocket that is zippered at the top and is separated down the middle with a Velcro strip. Its design was to give you a choice on what it can hold and how you would use it. Very clever! The upper pocket, secured with Velcro is again large enough for a magazine or tablet computer.

Just above the upper pocket is a side zip pocket that would be used for your wallet. There was a note in this side entry pocket indicating that it was made that way because of the requests of customers to have a pocket for easy access for their wallets. Another indication that Scott is continually developing his products to meet the ever demanding needs that they have. It is refreshing to see that his focus is on the customer!

On both sides of the vest close to the zipper are tiny pockets at the top that can be used for storage of your ear buds. A well thought out design to neatly store them. There is a long narrow pocket on the left side zipper flap for a pen?just the right height and very smoothly hidden. Throughout the vest you will find neat slits that have really defined what this vest is all about...the PAN (Personal Area Network).

The PAN allows you to channel your wires through the lining of the jacket enabling you to connect to the different devices you are carrying. It is very clever, unobtrusive, and easy to connect your devices. One of the first things I did was to wire my vest and go for a walk listening to some music...it was cool!

The collar of the vest is another unique design that clearly has evolved to what it is today. First, the material is a soft velvet like fabric. The collar has been folded and fastened with Velcro to allow additional use of the PAN. At either end, there are elastic collar loops and a special rubber grips for holding earbuds. I was impressed with the grips because they do the job and allow for easy changes.

I tried the Sport version but after a while I gave up. I liked the concept, but it was too hot to wear in the summer; it weighed a lot and the weight in the various pockets made it feel very odd to wear, it just hung down; the weights in the pocket made the lower pockets swing outward whenever I turned around so I was frequently slamming my lower pockets into door jambs and other people;

but the main problem was that you get tired of always wearing the same jacket no matter the weather. At one point I started wearing it over another jacket when it was really cold, but then I realized how stupid that looked and I gave up. The search continues.

Also, while a great idea, the loops for holding headphones and cellphone ear pieces don't work very well -- they need some sort of auto-retraction, otherwise they're always just flopping around and getting in the way.
Jack great revew. I have owned one for a few years now and it is great for traveling. It looks like a regular jacket and nobody knows what you are carrying. If it is a little warm unzip the sleeves and you have a nice vest. It is durable and very well made.
You state that it has the logo in several places, advertising what you have or might have.Thieves will see the logos and they are not always dumb. I think its to much advertising. I to liked the Dockers with the pockets, very casual. I will be fair and wait to see one before I rip/praise it. I would like to see the leather one. also is it cool (comfort) to wear indoors or would you need to shed it and worry about it like a expensive camera at your side. Maybe I just hung out to much in downtown Chicago
It's great... but isn't it heavy? Carry all those stuff around...
kinda like outfits for covert operators. I liked the Dockers with hidden pockets. If you have a 6315 why do you need more unless you want to pack a fax machine/printer? : )
I would have never in a million years quessed how great this vest is. It is NOT "nerdy" in any way...well, maybe if you stuff it with everything you own but that is not my way.

I will tell you this. I just got back from a Chinese dinner and I had worn my vest. I had 7 comments about the vest...all were positive.

Scott has done a remarkable job in creating active wear for those of us that want to carry our "stuff" but don't want others to know it. I can tell you this, any items from SCOTTeVEST are going to have the look, feel, and class that you would want to have.

LOL the good thing is that you cant tell what the person is carrying. But yes they do sell a leather style jacket.
Sorry still a little nerdy to me,I like the concept of hidden pockets and places to put wires. Can they make it look like a regular demin or leather jacket? something that does not say "Look at me I have 2000 dollars of electronics hidden on me please mug me!"
