GlobalSat Wireless Entertainment Package

Bluetooth Headset and Transmitter

I love my iPAQs!  From the very first moment I saw the iPAQ 3630, a love affair started and it has continued since.  The 3630 was (and still is) a great device but when they introduced the 3900 series and it had Bluetooth; I just had to have it!  A new and emerging technology allowing the use of a variety of peripheral devices without the use of wires---this was cool!

In the initial days, it was difficult to get the Bluetooth working but it soon matured and today, we rarely have difficulty with adding a Bluetooth device to our iPAQs; that is until HP decided to come out with the 1950 .

I have several iPAQs, NO, I have a lot of iPAQs and all of them have Bluetooth except the 3630.  I have acquired a variety of Bluetooth peripherals to use with all of them, most notably my ThinkOutside keyboard and mouse and my HP Bluetooth Stereo headset.  I love them and use them often.  When I finally got to try my VKB (iTech Virtual Keyboard), it was awesome and I would find myself immersed in “web stuff”, entering text and listening to my MP3s all the time.  Ahh, life was good!

Eventually, as I started to accumulate a lot of devices, I started to use them for particular purposes.  I found that for pure listening pleasure while playing a game or two, my iPAQ 1940 fit the bill.  It was light weight, played all the games I liked and I could listen to music easily with my HP headset.  It was a winner of a device and I used it a lot!

As technology grew, so did HP by introducing new lines of iPAQs; my favorite being the 4700 series.  Then came Windows Mobile 5 and we all anxiously awaited the newest line of iPAQs.  Hp soon came out with two new models (so to speak) the 1950 and the 2790.  Now I loved the 1940 but the opportunity to use Windows mobile 5 was too great a temptation so the plunge was taken, I got the device to replace the 1940, but it had NO Bluetooth!

I still can’t believe after all these months that the decision was made to use Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth. How was I ever going to listen to all those great tunes using my HP Bluetooth Stereo Headset?

It just was not going to happen --- I lose --- or so I thought.

Recently I was having a conversation with the folks at buygpsnow.com and I had mentioned that blunder during our conversation.  Their reply?

Hey, Jack, We have a solution for you!  Not only can we solve your problem where you can’t listen to your music via Bluetooth on your iPAQ but we can add Bluetooth functionality to virtually all of the electronic devices that you want to listen to.

You can?

We sure can!  We have the GlobalSat Wireless Entertainment Package.  It is a Bluetooth Headset and Transmitter that will give you the universal solution to transmit crystal clear digital sound from your iPAQ, iPod, MP3, CD player, mobile phone, or PC/laptop to the Bluetooth Headset through your BTH-820 or other compatible Bluetooth Audio Device.

Are you serious?

You bet!  This is a terrific addition to complement any device you have if you want audio without wires.  You will be very happy with it.

Actually, it is a headset so the review is not misleading at all. The control unit has a microphone built into it. When you get a call, you speak into the control unit and listen with your headphones.
True, there are wires from the unit but you get to use any set of headphones you desire (might need a plug adapter depending on your connector). I have a really nice pair of ear buds that I can use with this. A minor benefit with the earbuds is that I can just use one ear while driving. With full size headphones, they are not practical to use while driving as most states prohibit headphones in the car.

The Jabra and Motorola bluetooth headphones I tried sounded awful when listening to music. So I guess it is a tradeoff. Also, my earbuds are tiny and even with wires the bundle is very compact compared to the full size bluetooth headsets.

So yes, there are some wires going from the control unit to the earphones but that is a tradeoff some people are willing to make since they get to use their own headphones.
The BuyGPSNow description is kind of misleading. They claim the BTH-820 is a "Bluetooth headset", but it's not. It's a receiver that you can plug a real headset into. True Bluetooth stereo headsets usually cost $100 or more alone.

Yes, the package includes earbuds, but that means you still have a wire running somewhere. A true Bluetooth headset shouldn't have any wires.

Also, if you pair the BTH-820 with your iPAQ and a Bluetooth cell phone, will an incoming call automatically interrupt music playback and allow you to take the phone call? That's a critical feature, I think.
