GlobalSat Wireless Entertainment Package

As I was listening, I looked over at my desk and saw my HP Bluetooth Stereo Headphones. Too bad they didn’t work with this device…or would they? Hmmm, I think I’ll check that out!

So I took the receiver that was currently running and turned it off. Then, I started the transmitter in pairing mode again. Picking up the HP headset, I pressed the on/off button to start the pairing mode. Of course, as I was waiting for it to start, I just knew it was not going to work. The solid light appeared for pairing and all of a sudden I was hearing music. NO, it could not be coming from the headset but it was! It works!! Hooray!!

I am really happy! I have Bluetooth audio on my 1950, I can use it with my HP headset and it sounds terrific….life is very good!!

Do I have any complaints?

Not really. It performs as expected but the distance that you can travel from the transmitter is limited to about 15-18 feet for continued excellent sound quality. Greater distances start to have sound breakup or the sound stops. The only feature I wish it had was the ability to see the remaining charge in either device or at least a warning indicator showing the battery was getting low. I should point out that I have never run out of power and I have run both devices for hours at a time.

I really like it!

The unit is small, easily transportable, lasts a reasonable amount of time, charges quickly and it has given me that much needed ability to listen to my music wirelessly from my iPAQ 1950. If you want to be able to listen to audio from any of your electronic devices, this is one alternative that is easy to set up and works well!

Actually, it is a headset so the review is not misleading at all. The control unit has a microphone built into it. When you get a call, you speak into the control unit and listen with your headphones.
True, there are wires from the unit but you get to use any set of headphones you desire (might need a plug adapter depending on your connector). I have a really nice pair of ear buds that I can use with this. A minor benefit with the earbuds is that I can just use one ear while driving. With full size headphones, they are not practical to use while driving as most states prohibit headphones in the car.

The Jabra and Motorola bluetooth headphones I tried sounded awful when listening to music. So I guess it is a tradeoff. Also, my earbuds are tiny and even with wires the bundle is very compact compared to the full size bluetooth headsets.

So yes, there are some wires going from the control unit to the earphones but that is a tradeoff some people are willing to make since they get to use their own headphones.
The BuyGPSNow description is kind of misleading. They claim the BTH-820 is a "Bluetooth headset", but it's not. It's a receiver that you can plug a real headset into. True Bluetooth stereo headsets usually cost $100 or more alone.

Yes, the package includes earbuds, but that means you still have a wire running somewhere. A true Bluetooth headset shouldn't have any wires.

Also, if you pair the BTH-820 with your iPAQ and a Bluetooth cell phone, will an incoming call automatically interrupt music playback and allow you to take the phone call? That's a critical feature, I think.
