Socket's Mobile Power Pack

The Mobile Power Solution for the Road Warrior

With the myriad of devices that we carry in our daily routines, power has always been an issue or at the very least, a concern for most of us. For some time now, I have been looking at alternative power sources and I think I have found some pretty neat alternatives. Initially, the question I asked myself was:

What if I need emergency power, how do I get it?

The thrust of my search was based solely on acquiring emergency power. As my search has gone on, I have continued to acquire devices and unfortunately, virtually each device has its own power pack with their own means of attaching it to the device. The result? When I go on a trip, not only do I have to pack my devices but I need a separate storage bag for all the chargers. I can't for the life of me understand why manufacturers can't decide on a universal solution for charging electronic devices.

I have emergency power solutions for my home in case of an electrical outage and for my car so I can charge a device or two while driving. I also have a unique device that will provide me solar power but the solution I was looking for now was one that was lightweight, easily carried and would not only charge my devices but would supplement the internal batteries with a continuous flow of power while they were being used.

I like using my devices and I don't want to be limited in how I use them. For example, recently, I was at my local coffee shop drinking a cup of my favorite coffee, eating a fresh donut (actually two) and got caught up reading a favorite magazine. I had left my iPAQ at home so I couldn't listen to my music while I was reading but I did have another alternative --- stream XM radio through my K-JAM. And so the time just flew by, I drank my coffee, ate my donuts, read my magazine from cover to cover all the while I was listening to the XM stream; ahh, life is good!

It is so easy to get caught up in the moment and sort of lose yourself in the thoughts of an interesting article. All of a sudden I realized that an hour had gone by and I was about to be late for a meeting with a developer friend who was working on a program for me to use with a scanner. I quickly packed up my stuff and went out to the car to drive to his office. I decided to call and let him know I was going to be a few moments late and as I took my phone to call, I saw that my battery status was critically low.

How could I have let this happen! I needed the K-Jam with me because I had notes stored on the device to use during our meeting and there was not enough time to charge my device using my car charger.

The price may be high but I can charge both my 6515 and 4705 at least twice (full charges) before I have to recharge my Socket battery pack.
For half the price I bought an Eastgear Ultimate Battery Pack that is able to charge my JasJar twice before running out. The UBP looks to be a little smaller and has it's own case and is rated for 8,800 mAh. While the Socket unit looks great the price is too high.

I have one of these and it is the best investment I have made as far as supporting my mobile devices.
