Palm Treo GPS Navigation Bundle

TomTom 6.0 delivers a fantastic driving experience...

For Palm Treo smartphone users and GPS enthusiasts, Palm, Inc.  today announced the Palm GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition, featuring new TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 software. Drivers using the new GPS Navigator with their Treo smartphones can rely on voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions to easily find their destinations as well as millions of points of interest, including gas stations, restaurants, parks, airports and more. TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 is initially available only with Palm’s GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition.

Two weeks ago I was given the opportunity to get some hands on time with the new bundle.. Being a big fan of the Tom Tom Go 300 unit this was going to be a huge upgrade for me since this unit comes with TomTom 6 software. I found this probably the most exciting part of this announcement since TomTom has yet to release the 6.0 software for any smartphone device.

The packaging of the unit is quite different since Palm now has fully branded this bundle with their own look and feel. Another fantastic feature is that Palm has made the bundle Treo 650, 700p, 700w friendly so now users don't have to look for Palm OS versions as opposed to Windows Mobile Versions.. They have also bundled a mounting bracket, Palm Bluetooth GPS, Dual Charging Cable, USB SD reader and a 1GB SD card with Canada and US maps!

Installation of the TomTom 6 Software was as easy as inserting a SD card. Once the card is inserted the installation process starts. It took us approximately 5 minutes for the entire install to complete and then we selected over the air activation. The activation process was just seamless!! Fantastic integration with the Treo's EVDO connection making it extremely simple for even beginners.

Just got my treo 650 up and running with the Palm Nav 6 system. This is my first nav system, and it was the easiest set up I have ever had for any electronic device! Very easy to use, recalculates route if you take a wrong turn, or turn to avoid traffic. Local street names are shown. As I drive 20,000 mi a year, making up to 7 stops a day with 50% new addresses each day, this will take an easy 1/2 an hour off of each day.
The windshield mount is made in Germany, and is quite a piece of workmanship. I am very happy with this item!
Thats great! love tom-tom but guess what! sprint doesnt support it!
Mine arrived today as well and will be getting everything set up tonight.
My bundle arrived today, it was a snap to install and set up, and it works great. I love this thing already.
Something I noticed and is nice to see for us MAC users.

NOTE: Installation and software activation require a PC with a DVD-ROM drive running Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or Mac OS X 10.3 and an Internet connection.

Compatible with Treo 700w, Treo 700p, and Treo 650 smartphones only
Looks nice and if it I can answer a call on my Moto IHF1000 Car Kit without losing GPS then my Treo 700P will finally get GPS.
Nice review.. I have the TomTom 5.0 unit for the Treo and love it..
The device works with the bluetooth headset. We spoke about this in the podcast..
From the Palm web site... "Compatible with Treo 700w and Treo 650 smartphones only"

Not the 700p?

Anyone know for sure?
It says that you can answer a call while the BT GPS is engaged, BUT can you answer a call while using your BT headset?!? Do the devices support simultaneous BT connections? I would hate to have to rip the device out of the cradle and try to answer the call. I suppose you could put it on speaker, but I use my BT headset while driving all the time.

Thanks,
Kris
Sorry I placed the link on Page 3.. Palm just sent it up to me.. It can also be purchased in any Palm Store in the airports.
This bundle does look great. Palm's web site seems to point to the old version. Where to find this new deal?
"Another fantastic feature is that Palm has made the bundle Treo 650, 700p, 700w friendly so now users don't have to look for Palm OS versions as opposed to Windows Mobile Versions.. "
