Review: Samsung Omnia

A delightful experience

Based on the most up to date Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, Samsung OMNIA gives users a mobile extension to their PC experience, with access to MS Office documents such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Users can also send and receive email and manage their appointments in Outlook while on the go. The Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system means users can download additional programs as they would on their PC and customize it for their individual needs. For ease of navigation an optical mouse similar to those on laptop computers offers improved usability and one-handed control.

I've been following the i907 which has the AT&T 3G bands. Not much to tell since only line art of the back of the device has been published so far. It does appear to be wider than the i900, so if indeed it's a Omnia offshoot, Samsung may have made room for a stylus silo. It'll be interesting to see what the i907 looks like.
I agree that the stylus is missing but i will still buy it:D
Thanks for the comments everybody for I was seriously thinking about ordering one even though I live in the U.S.. I know I would lose the 3G speed and it's pretty costly However, not sure if that would be a major issue with not knowing a U.S. release date and if I would benefit (imporved technology) on the US model.
I currently use an ipaq 210 but very rarely take the stylus out of its silo. I have a Biro type stylus in my shirt pocket at all times, plus others on my desk and bedside table. I have one of these on order (some discrepancy as to when its' coming to the UK though). I think looking at this and other reviews,I will ditch the Samsung interface and go with Spb Shell.
Same here Jerry. I also use it for customers to sign and for preliminary drawings.
jehlingler,

Funny enough that I don't use a stylus for the PDA itself. I always wind up geting an ink pen/stylus that fits in a particular device slot so that I always have a pen with me. :)
Jerry, I wasn't to pleased with the separate pen/stylus, but I have to say with the screen size you don't need the stylus except for screen calibration.

I never find myself wishing for a stylus, although it is tucked away in my briefcase just in case.
Looks like a nice device. Hopefully Samsung will release more and more devices like this in the US. Can't wait to hear your full impressions after a week of usage.
Dave GREAT review!
If they release it in the US later this year, it should have the US 3G for at least one of the networks.
Samsung has really stepped it up lately. Too bad this device has no US 3G. This fall it's going to be tough deciding which phone(s) to go with...
This is the device I would want to replace my Cruise with (US version of course). I'd miss my ink pen/stylus but it would be a sacrifice I'd could live with.

Dave,

You didn't show the third type of today screen with the scrollable icons, time, missed calls/email, etc.
100% agree Phys.. Definitely not a unit for US residents. I do think this is a great device overall though!
Definitely not worth it for anyone in US to get this device unless they are moving to Europe shortly, or just like spending a lot of money on devices that do not work to potential. ;)

I agree that stylus is a big miss for Samsung too.
