Review: Verizon Hub

The ultimate home phone any family can ask for.

The Verizon Hub turns your home into a virtual communications center which enables consumers to communicate with their family and manage day-to-day activities, all from one convenient device. The Verizon Hub reinvents the home phone system that's been centered on your kitchen counter for years. Verizon has definitely offered new functionality to a common household device that will unlock its true potential.

There IS a company marketing an actual video phone, the IRIS3000 videophone, through ACN digital phone service - go to www.myacn.com enter ID01853894 if interested.
Back in the day, people had AOL dial-up and whatever content AOL shoveled at them through the AOL portal. The Internet killed that business model off, or at least that's what we thought.

Now here's Verizon offering a device for an upfront cost and monthly fee that binds users to the Verizon network and content providers including commercials. It's AOL redux!

There's nothing here that can't be accomplished with the hardware most Mobility Today viewers already have on hand, a broadband connection, and a Skype handset, with far more flexibility.
Hmmm, it now says video not available..but I watched it earlier. Overall seems kinda cool, but there isn't much you can do with the Hub that I'm not already doing with my laptop. I can look up stores, restaurants, movie times, traffic etc. Plus with a laptop I'm not tied to doing it at the kitchen counter. But I still think it's cool and a step in the right direction. Traffic reports are cool, but those commercials would drive me nuts. It would be nice if they had Traffic Cams plus the reports.
It must have some way of importing both calendar and contacts!! Can you at least add someone as a contact if they call and pull their info from caller ID?
Adding a video camera would be nice and perhaps a way of doing video calls with other Hubs, family members etc. Perhaps Skype integration?
