The Zune we received for our review unit was a white unit with a very smooth finish. The finish reminds me of the old porcelain soap dispensers with that very faint grain. It really feels good in your hand along with very little weight. At first I can tell you I was very skeptical about the design but the more you use the Zune the more it grows on you.. During this section I will show you some close photos of the device along with my comments.
The Zune has a five way directional pad which at first you automatically will glide your thumb around to notice the pad is not touch sensitive. To the left of the directional pad you'll notice a left arrow which allows the user to go to the previous menu. To the right of the touch pad you will notice a play/pause button which also serves as your power button (hold down the play button for 3 seconds and the Zune turns off.
The screen is a full 3 inch screen and by far the best screen for viewing videos. I did notice the screen is very reflective causing your eyes to go a little buggy. I guess Microsoft could have gone with a non reflective screen.
Right side profile of Zune (not much on either side).
The top of the Microsoft Zune is where users plug in their black headsets along with the capability of locking the unit from accidental button clicks.
The bottom of the Zune is where the charge/sync cable slot is located. We will go into further detail of the syncing capabilities later in this review
The back of the Zune shows only the logo and the serial number. I would guess in time Microsoft will allow personalization here like the iPOD does.
