In typical fashion, MSMOBILES.com has gotten an exclusive interview scoop directly from HP. The entire interview is in a podcast (see link below). Highlights include the following:
- The hw6515 will debut in mid-July both in Europe & the U.S.
- The hw6515 will NOT be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 5.
- TomTom will be the GPS map provider in Europe (v4 with a free upgrade to v5). The version of TomTom used is customized for the screen size of the hw6515. The GPS map provider for the U.S. has not been selected.
- 799 Euros. U.S. price is unannounced.
Odd how MSMobiles get these great interviews when their style of writing seems to bash Microsoft OS in general. Maybe I am missing something here, but they trashed the 6515 for its processor, screen and memory without testing it. They relied on Gartner Groups review. Now they "test" the device and say what great GPS it has. How do you know when a politician is lying his lips move.
So we knew it was great, now we know its supposedly coming sooner rather than later. Does this mean HP is going to start selling it sooner or is Cingular rushing it out the door.
Unless the CEO of HP or someone high up says so I don't buy it.
One last thought. Gee TomTom v4 in ROM but I get to use up my RAM to load TomTom v5, gee what a prize. how about a ROM update with TomTom v5 built in.
All I have to say is the conversation he had was not concerning the US. The gentleman spoke specifically on European model. I wouldnt put too much on these statements since the HP rep cannot speak in behalf of HP US..

Jacek, I mean Austin...Is it really typical? I don't think so!
Hah, I figured I would see resentful replies in response to that posting.
Jack, are you implying here that I am a gentleman named "Jacek"? My name is Cody and, no, I am not affiliated with MSmobiles if that's what you were suggesting. I just appreciate original news articles, not regurgitations of original content. If I see a juicy article on a website I typically post it on other websites to share the info with other enthusiasts. I wish some of the moderators/editors/etc. here would embrace that mentality and not be so competitive.
By the way, if you still think I'm "Jacek", you can call me; I assure you I lack a French accent

Nope, I listened to it again and the HP rep explicitly states that the device will be released at the same time in the U.S. as in Europe, in mid-July.
Do you feel you have more insight into the U.S. launch date than the HP rep in the interview? Sure, he's in France, but he still explicitly states the U.S. release date. I seriously doubt he would do so without good cause.
Agreed, this doesn't mean it won't be delayed - again. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised. However, I do perk up when an HP rep states a definitive U.S. launch date...
I also will believe the US release when I see it...
I think back to all the delays we went through last year. That is why I simply went ahead and ordered one from a Singapore retailer...I didn't trust the timliness of a US release.
The MSMobiles podcasst was the second podcast I ever listened to (#19 from DavesIpaq was my first one). The hard hitting and relentless questions seemed more rude and incoherent at times than hard hitting but that could just be me. While I did perk up as well on the supposed US launch being weeks away I wasn't jumping out of my car to order one just yet.
The HP rep didn't know what GPS software we would be getting, Europe got TomTom v4 with an upgrade to V5. But unless its in a ROM upgrade or can be installed on an SD card thats just more memory gobbled up.
He also said no WM05, again I am getting what I pay for a WMPE2003SE device, WM05 would be nice, but I can't base my purchase on that. Now that also doesn't mean this guy knows everything anyways.
Funny how the HP rep said it wasn't a phone, but a pda or mobile communicator. Umm its a pdaphone and yeah that means its a phone (too).

I just did a search and found that today as well. The Extd Battery link is new the others were there a couple of weeks ago (put that link somewhere in here). Still not in the HP store yet, but I was going to call them and see so I could get a gauge time frames.
Just checked out the extd battery link but nothing actually on the 6500 in the first 70 hits. If you reduce the # of key words down then it isn't really there.
Guys look at this.
I just checked the HPshopping website and I see THREE Ipaq (6300 series)phones--but the third is the same as the second (6325). Could this be just a place holder for the 6500??? Wishful thinking?
