Spectec MiniSD Wifi Card and the hw6500 iPAQ

One of our members s4czech has successfully connected the Spectec MiniSD Wifi card to work on the hw6500!! Here is his overview with some great commentary!

I'm happy to report that the Spectec MiniSD Wi-Fi card (model SDW-822) is working on the hw6515. Not only is it working, but it seems flawlessly fantastic so far!

This must mean the miniSD slot on the iPaq must support SDIO because it works just fine. All you do is load the driver. (they offer both cab, and .exe versions for intall) Pop it in, and you have instant Wi-Fi. Available connections pop up in a second or two. You can even pop it out and the iPaq keeps on trucking with no hiccups. Pop it back in, and you'll be back on Wi-Fi in seconds. I've even tried streaming video and audiio. It plays them 100% great. I then walked around my loft, and the signal was rock solid even on the other side of the house. (see video in next post)

The miniSD model will be model SDW-822

The miniSD and SD wifi cards both use the same driver. They have an additional driver for you non-iPaq Smart Phone edition users as well. You can download it here

This miniSD Wi-Fi is not available to buy yet, and this is a test model. It should be out in a few weeks from what I understand.

The SD version is available now from here

I recommend getting the miniSD card though, because guess what? It works just as great in the SD slot too! This means you can mix and match all your miniSD & SD cards. I popped in in each slot, and it worked every time.

It works great. I wish I didnt stick out as much, but it's way shorter then the discontinued Sandisk model. (and they are not making a new model) I plan to keep this thing in my wallet. You might have to cut a notch out of your docking cradle as well if you want it to stay in. A work around is to keep it in the SD slot using a miniSD adapter. It fits just fine while docked then.

Hello. I have got an hw6515c iPAQ and the SPECTEC miniSD 802.11b wireless LAN. My problem is that I have never been able to make a connection. I think the problem might be in the wireless LAN driver. I tried downloading the proper driver from the spectec website, but I must say it is a bit confusing as to which file to download. Also they don't have the exe. version of the driver. I would be very thankful if you gave me the URL of the proper driver to download, and the optimal connections (network cards/connections) settings in the settings menu for a flawless wireless operation.
I also got some of the problems mentioned by some of the friends, namely failing to synchrnoize after using the card, with the 608 error message, and also frequent failure of card detection by the system (despite the system being woken up by the card, which means that it is working!).
Thanks very much for your nice description of the wireless card features.
Cheers!
I have used my spectec wifi card and it appeared to work well until I received a phone call during an online session. Afterwards I began having trouble receiving text messages and my Ipac would not syncronize with my home computer. I contacted HP and after a number of attempts I was told that the call likely corrupted some files an I would have to do a hard reset to correct it. I did this and it worked but I don't want to go throught that whenever I use the wifi. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might resolve the problem?
Ho Ho Ho !!!!
The SD version is compatible too?
exellent I just pased my command.

exellent !!!
Does anyone know if the mini SD card protrudes out while in the mini SD adapter? I'm afraid of breaking it if it's sticking out.
Does it fit? when I see your first picture , the wifi card comes out.
thank you
Is LEAP an option?
So cool. Thanks for sharing!
"Nice"...
Unfortunately, for me, my Audiovox/Orange 5600 has an internal mini-SD slot under hte battery. I don't think this'll work for me because the slot is cut down into the phone and folds up to load the card and remains flush under the battery when closed. Maybe if they make the card the actual size of a mini-SD and not longer.
That's asking for alot.
Very well done. I want one!!!
Great work s4czech - Thanks so much for such a great review.
Great news for now that SanDisk is not offering much in the WiFi. Nice to also see its not vaporware.
