FAQ Blackberry Storm: How to Geotag your photos

The BlackBerry Storm supports photo geotagging, making it possible to embed GPS coordinates into photos, then view those pictures on a map.

To enable photo geotagging:

  1. On the Home Screen click the Camera icon or press the Right Convenience key
  2. Press the Menu key and click Options in the list that appears
  3. Ensure the geotagging option is set to Enabled
  4. Press the Escape key, if a pop-up box appears, click Save

If geotagging is enabled, GPS coordinates will be embedded into all pictures that are taken, provided a GPS signal has been acquired before the picture is taken. If a GPS signal has been acquired, the target icon in the bottom right hand corner of the camera screen will turn white.

When reviewing pictures in the Camera or Media applications, it’s easy to view a geotagged picture on a map. Simply highlight the picture you want, press the Menu key and click View On Map. A map will appear, complete with a thumbnail of the picture.

Other applications can also take advantage of geotagged photos. If a geotagged picture is uploaded to Flickr for example, people that view the picture will also be able to see where it was taken.
