Has anyone downloaded this that isn't a t-mobile customer so I can update my unit.

Thanks
Hey Y'all
I new to this whole forum idea but I learn quick. My situation is probably not unsual considering some of the already posted comments. my 6315 refuses to unlock. i bought a code from 3 different individuals who all provided the same code by the way...didn't work. i have downloaded the latest software release..i tried with a t-mobil sim and a canadian sim and still nothing...when i use a canadian sim, i get a message saying phone not ready although the fone has been on for minutes..when i try to unlock using the t-mobile sim, it say code not accepted...again 3 different sellers-all same code-is something wrong with my IPAQ?
IS there anything under this sun that can help me to get this damn thing tO WORK!!!I'LL appreciate any new insight. Thanks
I also upgraded to the unofficial ROM back in the beginning of March and then loaded the new official ROM today, worked like a Charm!!! Thanks to the guys who came up with the unofficial ROM update, it was a lifesaver (especially to my iPAQ since I was short of chunking it to the ground!!!) until the official ROM update came out....

Peace and Blessings....
I recently dumped T-Mobile for Cingular for 2 reasons:

1) Coverage is terrible in Rochester, NY.
2) The 6315 sucked so bad, and I was sick of waiting for a ROM update from the T-Mo/HP chimera.

I also picked up a Motorola MPx220 for something a little more portable. Might as well, since I was getting a new contract.

I also made sure that I unlocked my phone while I was with T-Mobile.

Unfortunately, my 6315 wouldn't work with the new Cingular 64K SIM card. Suck!

However, I just updated to the new ROM, and BAM!, the Cingular 64K SIM card works fine.

This makes me happy... The $600 phone isn't a brick any longer.
This operator of this site posted at the end of February, that the unofficial update posted on on PDAPhone.Com web site, would damage the h6315. After much controversey he revised his position to state that if one had used the unofficial update one could not load the official update without damaging ones machine. Both of the posts were false. They were not based in fact. I updated my h6315 with the unofficial post and then the official post. Both updates went smoothly. Many others have done the same. The owner of this site owes the iPAQ community an apology for such a blantantly irresponsible posting. However I doubt we will receive one. There is always a danger of a commercial media outlet becoming so chummy with the industry it covers. Objectivity is often lost and corporate propaganda is peddled as fact.
Thanks Canes78. Your input is much appreciated.
Though I have update the ROM to 1.10.08, the phone still remains locked. Can someone help me how to unlock the phone? Please!....
Buzzy, yes I have successfully used the 6315 with an Acura RL after installing the update on the 6315. This hadn't worked prior to the update.

Downloaded this with no problems. T-Mobile instructions were quite clear. Just 2 things. They said 10-15 minutes and took me over an hour..because I have dialup. Also they advised backup everything via Activesync since all applications etc. will be wiped out. My AC backup has always been grayed out but the HP backup works just fine. (It's in programs). Don't notice any improvements. Still cannot bluetpooth with the computer - possibly because of SPII. The bluetooth works fine with the iPhono headphones. When I click "discover" on the computer it unchecks immediately and shows an error message. Any ideas on this IM me(digital843@aol.com). TIA
Mayhem, Yes you can use the update even if your are not using the phone on thye T-Mobile network.
J2U how much??
Reidan and other? does that means taht I can not use it as I am not a tmobile customer??
All I've ever gotten from T-Mobile is a bill.
I've surrendered. After considerable effort and 2 T-mobile accts. I found a kind soul to unlock my 6315 so I could use Cingular(only towers in area)I then broke the unit leaning across my car. T-mo refused replacement-HP sent a new one Locked again! I bought a Treo 650. Anyone need a new 6315?
Well, I was going to wait for a few days to see how the upgrade went but I thought what the heck and jumped in with both feet! The upgrade was real easy and I had no problems! It was so easy I did it while at the same time cooking dinner for my wife who was down with the crud. OK, so it was only ramen noodles but still very smooth and not a porblem at all. It's only been a few hours but so far thinks are working great! I just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth because sometimes I think we only hear from the ones that are having problems. :)
Has anyone else noticed that T-Mobile has changed the filename? When I first downloaded it, the filename was TMO_SP29764_1_10_08. Now it's TMO_1.10.08_SP30017_C. Simple correction, or something more ominous? Has anyone checksummed these two versions to ensure they're identical?
PocketMac is mostly useless for installations in my experience. I asked Tmo about using Virtual PC and they said it would work. but it would be intolerably sloooooow. Also, the slower it goes, the greater chance of an error.

That being said, I jumped on my Mother in Law's PC and the installation went smooth as silk, and took about ten minutes. After reinstalling my backup, it's like the exact same PDA, except now it plays nice with my airport.
Good luck with this one. I tried to flash the ROM update, only to be met with Error 608. TMO claims that this is not the first case of this problem and to hard reset and use the original ROM. As we all know by now, the original ROM is NOT very scottish.

And if it's not Scottish, it's CRAP.

Still beta-testing for free.
I'm trying to install the update via my Macintosh on PocketMac. The .CAB file appears to be extracted correctly from the .exe file, but after it gets installed on the iPaq the iPaq gives the message:
Setup Failed: The file "\temp.cab" is not a valid WIndows CE Setup file.

Is there a workaround for this?
Thanks, already I made the downloading and the installation of the update of the ROM. The only thing is that there is to have the precaution to remove an endorsement so that everything flock
And the 6315 is back on the tmobile website for available phones to purchase. I'll be flashing when I get home. Thanks Davesipaq.com for the communication we should be hearing from our carrier!!!
mbustin - use ActiveSync to back up your iPaq. Then install the new ROM, connect to your PC as guest and restore the backup
The ROM does not unlock the phone.
Is there an easier way to restore the settings/apps than reinstalling by hand?
I am using the 6315 with ATTWS/Cingular. Prior to upgrading the ROM, I was able to change the registry entry for voice mail to dial my cell number for voice mail retrieval rather than 123 thats stored in ROM. After the upgrade, I modified the registry with my voice mail number and it holds as long as you don't soft reset the unit. Once you soft reset, it reverts back to the 123. Anyone have a solution for this?
Does the new ROM version (1.10.08) unlock the phone. Has anyone tried it? My phone is locked please help.
Nice to hear this first from davesipaq.com. I downloaded the ROM upgrade through the link on this page, and it didnt ask for anything. Have it already flashed in, and until now seems quite nice. I am also getting the felling that its a bit faster than the older one.
Has anyone tried using the 6315 in a bluetooth equipped car besides myself (acura tl failed bluetooth compat tests)?
I suppose if you need the update file you can get a friend to download it and send it to you. It is about 23.5 meg.
I spoke with Tmo yesterday before the update was posted. Since I had installed the hacked ROM and was satisfied with my 6315 I was cancelling the request for a replacement phone. I also asked if the unofficial ROM would cancel the warranty. The reply was "no" if it was only a software installation and was not a hardware modification. I just installed the "OFFICIAL" upgrade and it did overwrite the 1.00.38 ROM to the 1.10.08 Tmo version. Let's see if this is as good as the unofficial version.
Interesting, you have to enter your T-Mobile phone number in order to download the ROM Update from the T-Mobile site. I am sure this will irk some non-T-Mobile customers!! :)
