Surf on your laptop using the i-730

One of our readers just sent me this who also has the Samsung I-730..Codepyro writes, "Dave I just got EVDO Speeds on my laptop using my I-730, its pretty easy and painless".. So here are the steps involved to make this happen..

Go to the phone app and then press: **PATH (which is **7284)

You can then select USB and then plug the i730 in to your computer. It should automatically install the Samsung USB modem drivers and you should not see activesync popup/connect. You may need to download these Samsung MCCI drivers. You then need to make a new network connection that dials: #777 with the username: yourtendigitnumber@vzw3g.com and password: vzw

This has been tested and verified by me, works with both EVDO and 1X.

Bluetooth is still in progress and does not currently work, even though it is listed, please check back later.

He also credits JimCapraro on PDAPhonehome for figuring this out.

I have been using it for 2 days and it works like a charm!

Also here is another I email got from a member.

I Have Bluetooth DUN on my Samsung I730!

I bought a Pretec SD BT card ($150.00) from www.pretec.com. This card supports pretty much all BT services.

Install the drivers, reboot and plug the Bluetooth card in the slot. When you pair it to your laptop the DUN service is available.

To set it up create a new dialup connection on the laptop with the “Bluetooth modem” selected.

Pay attention to the com port for the “Bluetooth modem” on the laptop and set the same port under “dun” in the new BT software on your phone, and change the port speed to the fastest available on the phone.

Set the username to: yourtendigitnumber@vzw3g.com and your password to: vzw and your dialup number to: #777

After all the setup make sure data on the phone is “DISCONNECTED”.

Go to your laptop, open the connection you created and connect.

If you did it correctly it will establish the Bluetooth connection and dial the data connection.

Things to look out for:

If you use a program like GoodLink that tries to constantly connect to the internet it will disable your connection every time it tries to connect.

You will have to disconnect and reconnect to get the data working again.

I hard reset my device to delete GoodLink and just loaded the new Bluetooth card up. I have been online for over an hour and I am getting about 128k on 1x.

My cable isp has been down for a week and the I730 has been doing a great job of keeping me connected
The connection speed is 230.4 kps. Is there any way to get up to the 400-700 kpsEVDO is supposed to provide?
I can no longer dial in using this function...Did verizon wireless remove the generic password access? I did upgrade my device to mobile 5.0 ..could this be my issue? I get the message, user name and or password not verified on the network!
Typical for Engadget...They are as bad as a Tabloid newspaper, what they can't claim, they will make up or pretend. They got clout, so they don't care. In fact most VZW PDA have had this "hack" for some time, it used to be public, they just kinda wanted people to pay for extra cards for their PCs. Its removal was a "marketing decision."
(I know this is an older post but I googled it)
Peter Rojas called me a troll! haha, this is too good.

I'm closing comments. We have some trolls who can't seem to understand the simple fact that people who create these tips and tricks often send their info to multiple sites.

*Gasp* AWWww I'm sowwy little petey! Don't cry, dry your eye!

2 weeks seem like a long time to wait to post a tip/trick, doesn't it? Researching the topic further, I noticed this other guy's blog. Interesting stuff on this sort of thing, I never knew it was so widespread:
http://mp.blogs.com/mp/2005/07/on_blog_plagiar.html
So, uh... I was looking at Engagdet a few minutes ago. Did anyone else see what i saw? A (nearly) verbatim copy of this entry was entered at Engadget this morning:
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000973050550/#c338459

Then I see a post (presumably) from David Ciccone himself, saying "Funny, I just posted something just like this a couple weeks ago". I laughed my A** off! I posted a comment saying "Engadget got PWN3D by DavesIpaq. Score one for plagiarism." When verifying the addition of my comment, I saw that Dave's comment had been deleted! A few seconds later, I hit refresh and my comment was gone too! Not only does Engadget plagiarize, they don't admit their mistake when they're been discovered! I had no idea Engadget allowed their blogposters to take such a spartan approach to things. I wish I had taken screenshots. Maybe they are based in China? I should try to make a post on Engadget containing the words "Democracy" or "Freedom" in it.

Anyway, great entertainment for a Friday morning. Thanks, "Peter Rojas". You are "T00l of the day".
Jim's a good guy. He was one of the pdaphonehome I700 users and is going to be testing the 6500 soon too :)
