Xperia X1 Marketing Video

Just stumbled upon this video and it looks like a Sony Ericsson marketing video hot off the press to promote the Xperia X1 on release, it makes interesting watching however you must remember that the iPhone 3G worked super fast on their marketing videos too and that hasn't quite lived up to the hype. Anyway the highlights are the touch focus camera, the tile interface and the beautiful screen and resolution. Looks like we are nearing release time and my money is starting to twitch in my pocket.

The specs on Sony's site are showing 3G bands for AT&T, T-Mobile and Europe.
Xperia we have considered for month of waiting, but if the price will be $ 1,000 we would go with the HTC Touch Pro for $ 300 less. The only concern we have is the bands available, so that we can have UMTS in Europe and the US.

In an ideal world we wouldn't need SDKs. However, manufacturers customize WM for their products, adding new and "enhanced" features, HTC Touch Flo is a good example, and leave other features out.

Using a device's SDK helps insure that software will run on the device, provides tools to speed development, and helps with "Look and feel" compliance.
I found that clip to be overly computer enhanced. Definately a marketing video. If we're lucky the actual device will be at least half as smooth as that. And can someone tell me why a separate SDK is needed if it's running WM.
Had to add an update: just been reading about the free development SDK for the Xperia Sony just released. Looks really promising, though there are some artificial restrictions reminiscent of the iPhone SDK.

There's probably a joke in there somewhere about that "twitch in my pocket"!

Anyway, I hope the Xperia does live up to the hype and that it's available soon, even if it's just as an import to the US. My only complaint is the bulk added by the keyboard; the phone sans the keys is what the Diamond should have been. However, the specs of the Xperia are just good enough to make an exception to my no keyboard rule and give up my recently acquired Omnia.

I look forward to your review.
