The i-Blue Bluetooth GPS Receiver

buyGPSnow.com is proud to present the new i-Blue Bluetooth GPS receiver. The i-Blue has the following exciting features that no other consumer Bluetooth GPS receiver can match:

1) Longest operation time of 30 hrs per full charge. That is about 12 to 20 hrs longer than typical Bluetooth GPS in the market.

2) Smart Power Save Mechanism - When you use i-Blue PS-3200 for the first time, just power it up and place it under the windshield in your car. Anytime when you bring aboard your PDA or laptop computer with Bluetooth connectivity, i-Blue PS-3200 will enable itself for your navigating usage. Once you leave your car and take the PDA with you, i-Blue PS-3200 will go into sleeping mode.

I just got my i-Blue today and I've already been using it wiht my 8125. It connects with no problems. You probably haven't done the registry tweak to enable gps configuration within Windows Mobile. Search on the internet (or Howard Forums) for that and then you'll need to pair with the device and set it to use COM 7. You'll then need to set a software relay at COM 9. This will allow multiple programs to use the receiver at the same time.

It works beautifullY!
It may just be my own operator headspace, but I have been unable to get this to work with my Cingular 8125. When I installed the GPSView software on my PC, it also installed it on my PDA.

ITer Networking Corp, which is based in Taiwan, is the manufacturer of the i-Blue, and they say GPSView ONLY installs on the PC, not the PPC.

The issue is that after installing on the PPC, it tells me it may not work properly because it was made for an earlier version of the OS. (As a test, I installed it on my HP iPAQ HX4705. It installed without errors. The difference is the OS, which is WM2003SE on the iPAQ. That, and the icon for the program is the correct one for the program on the iPAQ, and is the OS default on the 8125.)

I bought the i-Blue with iGuidance from iNav on eBay from BuyGPSNow.com. BuyGPSNow says both are compatible with all versions of Windows Mobile.

Although you can hook up the i-Blue via USB (it has a miniUSB port on the side and comes with a retractible miniUSB-USB A cord), there are no USB drivers on the accompanying mini-CD. ITer Networking says you must use the Bluetooth capability, which then forces you to buy a Bluetooth dongle if you don't have Bluetooth on your PC or laptop. With Bluetooth 2.0 just around the corner, I don't want to buy one just yet.

The last communication I had with the manufacturer, I was provided a link to usglobalsat.com for a WM5 zipped executable. I believe US Globalsat is a competitor, and they seem to use the SiRF III chipsets, so I don't know why they sent me there.

Sorry I'm being so long-winded, and probably sound frustrated, but while support has been very quick to respond, they haven't really addressed the issue.

I'm giving very serious thought to returning the unit and getting one that will work with WM5.
It doesn't seem to be a SIRF III chipset (at least it doesn't mention it in the specs). The SIRF III chipset is just so amazing when it comes to satellite lock-on speed and signal strength. I am even able to lock on to sats when I am in my home! :)
As far as feature number two, the Garmin GPS 10 does something similar (once configured). It powers on when it detects DC power and powers off after 15 minutes of Bluetooth inactivity. Mine is in the back window of my car and I never have to touch it.
