HP iPAQ hw6925, hw6920 slated for Cingular

Unveiled yesterday for the European market, Hewlett-Packard's new iPAQ hw6900 series business phone has been confirmed as upcoming for the US market through carrier Cingular Wireless. Its predecessor, the iPAQ hw6500, scored a world first with its integration of antenna-less GPS in 2005, with the new series sporting a redesigned thumbboard and Windows Mobile 5.0. The device is also among the first to feature Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP), which enables true push e-mail functionality and improved remote device management when used in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2.

In other respects, the iPAQ hw6900 series remains mostly identical to its predecessor, featuring quad-band GSM with EDGE support; Wi-Fi 802.11b; Bluetooth; and antenna-less GPS connectivity. Furthermore, the series harbours a 3-inch display with a resolution of 240 x 240 pixels, a back-mounted 1.3 Megapixel camera (exclusive to the iPAQ hw6925), and a miniSD card expansion slot. Its memory architecture, however, has been altered due to the arrival of Windows Mobile 5.0, and now reads 64 MB of RAM and 45 MB of user available, non-volatile storage.

The HP iPAQ hw6900 series, comprised of the iPAQ hw6925 and iPAQ hw6920 will be available from carrier Cingular Wireless later this sprint; pricing for the two models is as of yet unknown.
