MOBILITY TODAY EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

david _ corp shot

David Smith, Director of Marketing, HTC America --14 years in the mobile phone phone industry. Born in Melbourne, Australia. Graduated from Monash University, Melbourne. Joined Telstra as Corporate Sales Manager. Decided that there was more out there and spent one year trekking in Latin America and ended the journey in London joining Nokia Networks in 1997 as Global Marketing Manager. In 2000, accepted an opportunity to join Nokia Mobile Phones in Texas and progressed throughout the organization from marketing to sales and was promoted as Director, Business Development. With a growing young family, decided to return home to Australia in 2004 to head sales for Nokia based in Sydney. The opportunity to head Marketing for HTC was too exciting to refuse. Since joining in March this year, has progressed to build the marketing framework and now a best in breed organization. The vision is to create a marketing led organization that continues to innovate and challenge conventional thinking of a fast changing convergence mobile market.

Ahhh, there-in lies the evil of cheapness. lol

You would think though that MS would cut them a deal since MS would (without a doubt) see more distribution of their VC software with the arrangement.
I would bet 2-to-1 that the licensing for Cyberion is cheaper than MS VC, thereby prompting HTC to go with the cheaper option.

Just my .02.
Is it the carriers call or HTC's call on the decision to integrate Cyberon's voice software over MS Voice Command?
Great interview Dave. That was very fun to listen to his input on the listeners questions!
