It seems like the cingular name and logo has disappeared from any images on HP webpage, and from the warranty info. Does anybody know if cingular is still gonna release this phone or not?

Does anyone have experience using the 69xx with Cingular voice & data service when outside the US? I spend a month or two traveling in Europe and Asia and I'm considering buying the 6940.

I'm so late to his game I'll be surprised if anyone reads this, but I'm really excited about this release. I wont buy one of these. I dont really like HP anymore (after years of ipaqs). I dont really like this phone, and I'm quite satisfied with my 6700. So why am I stoked?
I HATE dealing with carriers for devices. HATE IT! With the fiery burning passion of a thousand suns. I so miss being able to walk into a store and buy a PDA, or go online and plug in my credit card. Open the box, charge it up and go.
I'l pay more not to be hamstrung be carrier demands. I'll pay more not to be locked into a contract. I'll pay more not to give a carrier anymore money than I have to.
I hope HP the best, and I hope that future data devices will also be sold here state side carrier unlocked, directly through a manufacturer or newegg.

S4,
Please consider not everyone can afford to buy and sell devices at a clip that you may accustomed to. Nevermind that, even corporate buyers don't want to get caught up in short-life-span products.
I have to consider myself lucky that I have been able to buy as many devices as I have in the past.

I knew there were problems with Cingular.. I guess you can say we were right about the TMobile/Cingular launch.
Please Note: The hw6940/6945 is NOT carrier certified; therefore it will only be sold by HP and HP's channel partners. It will not be available for sale through any wireless carriers, retail stores, or retail outlets. As it is not carrier certified, all support and service will be managed directly by HP. In order to perform GPS navigation, a software application and maps must be purchased separately

Early next year? (that's forever) I'm lucky if my phone lasts 6 months before I want/get something newer. I'm going to enjoy my 6900 until then. I havnt seen any official annoucments on any 3G devices that meet my points below. (or 3G service in San Francisco) I wont hold my breath for 3G and a matching device. I'm sure it will be delayed like everything else when it comes to the U.S. and new technology + supported devices. If you're good with ebay, concider all devices you buy as a rental (keep the new box + manuals handy) Then you can upgrade over and over with minmal loss

Um....that's "Mr. Major League Best Record" Mets to you sir! :)
Good for you D and I hope that you feel that's the best decision for you. I have said all along, that 6900 "would" have been a killer device during the first round of WM5 devices last year.

Probably. Either that or the Treo 750. There's just no advantage (for me) to buy an unlocked device for hundreds of bucks more. Sure, you'll have better resale value, but in the end it really not worth it if you are happy with your service and carrier.
Of course, I am leaning heavily toward the 8525 with the 750 being a "darkhorse".

Yo know what Jerry, you convinced me bro. Something you said struck a chord. Even if T-Mobile doesn't get 3G until early next year, if I drop $650 right now- my phone should be ready to take advantage of that. I can't believe I let a Mets fan convince me. But you are right. I'm calling to cancel my order first thing Monday morning.

Hey Jerry, why haven't you bought the TyTn yet? You said you would never buy another locked device. So I know you arent waiting for the Cingular version. Are you?

The 6900 has been rock solid for me so far. It does everything I want to do "today". I'm always ready for the next best thing of course, but I'm totally satisified. (and I'm very picky)

I have always been kind of jealous of Treo and Blackberry owners, because of the keyboard. But i'm a Windows Mobile guy. This is the closest thing for me. Hey, if I don't like it- I will sell it and take a $50 hit.

My #1 requirment of all future converged devices is having a thumboard/keyboard. The 6900 is the first device to feel as comfortable as the original blackberry keyboard. The 6500 and Treo keyboard buttons are too high too rounded. (cant type fast) The slide out keyboards of other devices are too slow to slide out for quick replies to text messages one handed. I'm too lazy to take out the stylus and peck type or write letters any more when I can type so fast with my thumbs. The #2 thing is having GPS. What other GSM device has both of these + 3G?

I hear ya Jerry but 3G will not be fully up on T-Mobile until like end of 1st qtr of 07. I love my MDA just like you with all the hacks and overclocking applied. To me, 2 major reasons I went for it. Number 1, is the much faster processor and number 2 and more importantly to me is the static keyboard. I was going to wait for the Treo 750, but it not having wifi is a killer for me.

Hate to say it S4 but hsdpa will be in most US metro areas by the end of 2006. If I am going to spend 500 bucks or more on a device right now, it better be equipped for for 3g. The only saving grace the 6900 offers is embedded gps.
In addition, it represents HP's lack of enthusiasm for the handheld space. Look, it release the 6900 today for sale withou a peep. That says it all.

It would be nice if a real 3G GSM network was available in the U.S. coast to coast. The 6900 is as cutting edge as it gets for 2006 in the North America at least. Nobody else has anything with all the 6900 features for sale as of today.

Good riddance HP! The 6500 and 6900 are uninspring and non-cutting edge. The Palm and various HTC devices are eating HP for lunch. The copetition is already releasing 2nd gen WM5 devices with 3G, GPS, and wifi b/g.
Thanks for playing HP, you were great in your heyday, but now you are but a shadow of your former self.

Read the warranty regarding the "Cingular" warranty:
|
|
> hw6940/6945 is NOT carrier certified
Are you sure? because the HP website shows a "cingular" logo with the iPAQ picture when you select "Buy Online". I just bought one!
|
|
If you Click on product overview it says this:
Please Note: The hw6940/6945 is NOT carrier certified; therefore it will only be sold by HP and HP's channel partners. It will not be available for sale through any wireless carriers, retail stores, or retail outlets. As it is not carrier certified, all support and service will be managed directly by HP.
Does this mean the ones they will be selling will be unlocked? I will jump all over this if it is. I have T-Mobile and don't want a Cingular branded or locked one. Does anyone have any idea?

IT IS NOW RELEASED IN THE USA HOORAY!!! $599.99 IS THE PRICE DIRECTLY FROM HP, NOW WATCH THE PRICE COME DOWN ON EBAY.
I SPOKE TO A SALES REP AND HE SAID THE NOTICED IT YESTERDAY.
YOU CAN BUY IT NOW FROM THE HP SALES REP.
|
|
I spoke to Kevin on HP Chat and told me the device was for sale today and that I could call the SMB Sales Team, a local reseller, or Cingular. I called Cingular first and they had no date of release and insisted it would be out no earlier the mid October. I then called HP SMB Sales and they didn't even have it in the order system. I asked the rep to go to the website and he was able to find it via the part number, but stated the item was listed on Back Order for 2-3 weeks and that it currently had a waiting list of 184 orders.

I've used Pocket PC for 3 years with a PDA/Phone.
It is what you'd expect from Microsoft, buggy, crashes a lot, sometimes during calls.
I wish Apple made a PDA/phone, I'd buy it in a second.

Scarson2: It only has the one miniSD slot. The SD slot like the 6500 had is where they put the built in wifi card. (sealed inside though, ant runs up around the case just below the suface)

"Slots 1 Integrated Mini SD slot (memory only)
1 Integrated Secure Digital (SDIO) "
Is this 1 mini and 1 full size SD?
