Roll-up Laptop

A team of engineers at the U.K.'s University of Cambridge has developed "morphing materials" that make it possible to roll up a laptop screen as easily as a newspaper.

This prototype, created by Keith Seffen, a lecturer in structural engineering at the University of Cambridge, holds the main electronic components by wooden strips on the vertical sides of the screen.

The University of Cambridge engineers say that products based on such prototypes could be out in another five years.

The screen rolls into an easy-to-carry size, and there's no need to panic if it's dropped on the floor, Seffen said.

The material shown here is a copper alloy, with its structure distorted to produce either two shapes: a flat screen or tube structure.

Seffen has also developed materials that will hold three shapes and said "we think four shapes are a possibility."

Nice grab Laura, this is more like what I was talking about in my response to the Think Outside Keyboard:

http://mobilitytoday.com/articles/thinkoutside_sierra_keyboard.html

"Now if they were able to get video out through USB, BT or IR and there was a portable projection or flexible foldable lcd screen that had the capability of working with increased screen size resolutions, then we would be talking a true notebook replacement with this keyboard and your mobile device."

OMG.. yeah so hope they dont use Sony batteries!!!
Hope they don't use Sony batteries.
I wonder if you could sleep on it too ??
now that with the roll up keyboard http://eleksen.com/?page=products/index.asp would make for a great set-up. Even better if the screen was a touch pad device.
