IBM Corp. is recalling 526,000 laptop batteries.

WASHINGTON -- IBM Corp. is recalling 526,000 laptop batteries worldwide made by Sony Corp., the latest in a series of problems with Sony batteries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

IBM and the batteries' distributor, Lenovo Inc. of Research Triangle Park, N.C., were seeking the voluntary recall of the rechargeable, lithium-ion batteries used in ThinkPad notebook computers, citing concerns of a possible fire hazard.

About 168,500 of them were sold in the U.S., while the rest were distributed worldwide, the CPSC said.

Good info Mickey - Thanks.
There is a small app that you can download that will run on the end users computer and it will tell you if your battery is affected by the recall. Our company uses IBM thinkpads exclusively and so we are in the process of running it for everyone right now...
Oh Joy!! My company recently started purchasing the T60 and X60. And, I just placed an order for 25 more yesterday before the recall was announced!! Called my supplier and asked if they could verify the battery before shipping and they said no!
