TIP: Turn off HSDPA on your Blackjack

I have been using the Blackjack for a week now and I have to say hands down this is the best phone I have ever used thanks to HSDPA! That being said I did notice a battery pull if you are in HSDPA coverage area. Unfortunately there is no way to turn off the 3G service but apparently we have a code that will work!!! Those who don't understand HSDPA will use more battery life so those who dont need it on all the time can definitely preserve battery life.. Not sure if it will work on the Treo 750's that were unlocked for Cingular use but would love to know..So here is how you do it!

  1. Enter *#1546792*#
  2. Select Option 3 Netowrk & Call Settings
  3. Select option 5 Network Mode
  4. Select GSM

Q: Are these steps to switch off HSDPA a one way street? How do I reable the same?

Also: Do see the following site. Looks like Cingular is giving out free extended battery to those who haven't got the same in the pack.

My Blackjack battery life is definately better than my Q. I'm like you Dave, the Blackjack convinced me to change carriers! HSDPA rocks - I can talk AND browse the web at the same time - very handy!

I dont have complaints with the battery. Certainly 10x better than my Q.
Samsung phones have been notoriously known for poor battery life. Having HSDPA on and "connected" certainly doesn't help the situation.
I went to local Cingular dealer last Friday to look at the Blackjack and the 8525. The Blackjack came standard with two batteries, maybe we know why? I read a post somewhere that Samsung phone were "battery hogs".
It goes to Edge.....
after turning HSDPA off with this code, what do you get Edge, plain GPRS or nothing, no internet.
Are you observing the drain on battery w/ or w/o an active HSDPA data connection?
