Cingular Blackjack tethered to a Mac

I have received over 20 requests for this when I posted a blurb on my blog about how I tethered my Macintosh to my Cingular Blackjack.. After a few days of tinkering around I came up with this solution..

  1. Download the Blackberry 3G Driver
  2. Load the driver on the Macintosh.
  3. Goto Start>Settings>Connections>USB on the Blackjack and change it to <b>Modem</b>
  4. Connect your Blackjack to your Macintosh via USB Cable
  5. Goto your Macintosh and select Apple>System Preferences>Network
  6. It should automatically show a new connection called "SAMSUNG CDMA TECHNOLOGIES"
  7. Select that connection goto TCP/IP tab and select ppp tab and enter in
    1. WAP@CINGLARGPRS.COM <--USERNAME
    2. CINGULAR1 <---PASSWORD
    3. WAP.CINGULAR <--- TELEPHONE NUMBER
  8. In your PPP options select Send PPP echo packets and uncheck: Use TCP header compression.
  9. Goto Modem Tab and select your Blackberry CID1 OR CID3
  10. Uncheck redial if busy

Lock your connection and you will see a phone on the right hand side of your mac. Select the pull down menu and select connect!!!! That's it!

Anyone know where to get the drivers for the new Blackjack 2? I have everything all set and then i realized these instructions and Drivers were for the original blackjack...

help!!!
I too dont see the Blackberry CID1 ... CID3 in the Modem dropdown list inside Network Preferences. Tried putting them in /user/library/Modem Scripts as well as the root/library/Modem Scripts with no luck, all i see are old school modems gak :(
I was able to get my Samsung SYNC (a-707) to connect using these steps. Also, I am connected to my Mac using bluetooth instead of the USB cable (don't own one). I know my battery may drain faster, but it still works like a charm! Thanks.

I just followed these instructions and was able to get the blackjack connection up and running. There is one step I followed not mentioned in the instructions above which may or may not solve your problem: In the ReadMe for the download it instructs you to do the following for MAC OS X:
"Drop the modem scripts into Library:Modem Scripts. I accomplished this by copying the modem scripts from the download folder and pasting them into the folder under Library:Modem Scripts. Then follow the rest of the setup instructions and it should work. Hope this helps.
Hey that is a great way to tether...but i have a little problem...i had it working perfectly yesterday with great connection speed..but today when i try and connect it says that it was suddenly hung up???!? it first says connecting, then establishing connection, then disconnecting?!?! i dont know what that is about...i was wondering you someone could HELP please...
Thanks a gazillion!!!!! Working like a dawg!!!!
You are missing the U in WAP@CING***U***LARGPRS.com --this might explain why some people are having issues. Also, absolutoliver.. you need to drop the modem scripts from the zip file into Macintosh HD:Library:Modem Scripts
Got my Blackjack yesterday evening & spent all night looking everywhere for a remedy on how to use the Bluetooth connection or how to configure the phone as a tethered modem for an iBook G4 (The wife is a MAC illiterate & was so unhappy with her Ma bell ISP, myself I am a frustrated PC user--Da ya think Vista will be our salvation?). Finally, with Dave's remedy I can now catch a much needed snooze.
I hope you don't mind, but I posted your solution on the i607 wiki at i607.org

Thanks
Since so many Mac novices like myself I'm sure have Googled their way here only to ask the same question as chevill and absolutoliver, here's the extra step (at least for a PowerPC Mac?). If you look in the readme file that comes in the zip Dave links to, it will tell you to drop all 3 Blackberry scripts in Library:Modem Scripts. Once you do so, then the rest of Dave's instructions work perfectly, although like me and Julian (http://www.blog.julians.name/2007/01/08/using-cingular-blackjack-with-a-mac-to-connect-to-3g-hspda-network/), you may not get it to work on the very first connection attempt
Hi, Im already stuck at #1. When I download that BLACKBERRY 3G DRIVER it unstuffs as a folder full of READ ME files and CID1,2,and3. Its not a driver that Im used to. If offers to open it u in a chosen program but i don't know what to do. I really want to get this to work please help!
I have downloaded the 3g driver but what application do i open it with? I have successfully done steps 3-8 but by step 9 I do not see "Blackberry CID1 or CID3" as an option in the modem list. Is there a step in between step 2 and 3 that i need to do? Please help I am almost there!!!!!
I have tried this out with NO LUCK. Once I am all done I get a message that says my phone does not have GPRS connection. Any idea what I do next?
