LG's iPhone clone to run Windows Mobile 6

Apple's iPhone might not be the first to hit the market if Microsoft has their way...

Today I was sent this article in Business Week that totally made a bulb go off in my head! It looks as if Business Week spilled the beans on the LG iPhone look alike phone that apparently will run Microsoft's new Windows Mobile 6.0 OS.. This phone was also the LG Prada touchscreen device we saw a few weeks ago along with the LG KE850. According to the Business Week article they state

Quote
And BusinessWeek has learned that LG Electronics, the fourth-largest mobile phone maker, is developing new Windows Mobile devices. With Samsung and Motorola (MOT) already selling Windows Mobile phones, Microsoft will have three of the top five handset makers in its camp.

LG says it's working on at least two new smartphones, including devices that would use its touch-screen technology rather than buttons. The first handsets will hit the market in the second half of this year. It's a new market for the Korean company. Woo-young Kwak, LG's vice-president and head of mobile communications research and development, says the "collaboration with Microsoft will enhance LG's stance in the growing smartphone market."

Microsoft and LG are expected to announce the news at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona on Feb. 12. It will also unveil Windows Mobile 6, which will include improved collaboration software and better security. The first Windows Mobile devices will arrive in the spring

So from what I take on this article Apple better hurry fast since Microsoft and LG might have beat them to the punch!

I love it LG's "iPhone." And guess what guys next year we're gonna try to make LG's MAC running MS-Vista. We really really really really hope it won't need 10 million patches, security releases, crash for no apparent reason, give you the blue screen of death, and then you would have to upgrade to our 2.0 version.

If nothing else they tried. Microsoft is in a follow mode. What's Apple doing? Hurry let's make one too!!! Zune, now this...MS just sucks!!!
Well, has anyone thought that maybe LG had the design first and Apple copied. :) Just a thought. The Iphone is a kids toy. Like JN said, "It has Itunes" Its a good thing that in the buisness world, that funtionality is just shy useless. This could be Microsoft's retort to the Iphone, and from the looks of what they are doing this phone might stand where the IPhone falls. See, this phone will carry all the buisness funtionality that the Iphone will not. So we will have a sorta "His and Hers" situation. On the left you have the Iphone, which is a college kids dream, and on the other the LG phone running windows mobile 6, a Buisness attractive and usefull solution. Only one problem. Unless times have changed (and I work for a University, so they havent) college kids dont make the money to afford and IPhone. This will be Apple's biggest chalenge. I know this may sound negative on the Iphone side, but I just dont see the big deal about a device with a "No button" inteface. Wow, that was so hard to make, the a replica was on the market within a week or two. The Iphone has potential, but the price is going to have to fall pretty quick, or some real contract deals are going to have to happen to get this in the mainstream.
Surur,

That's pretty much the point I was eluding to. :)
Just because it has a touch screen does not mean its a full screen button-less Iphone device. What I take away from that is that one will be a Smartphone, and the other a PocketPC Phone. Not everything has to involve the Iphone.
I am sure it will be a cool phone with some pretty "neat" features but a WM phone just doesn't incite the buzz amongst the masses as the iPhone has.

Like I said the iPhone buzz will carry the initial sales of the device. If the iPhone delivers as promised, the rest will be history,

Anyways, what good is a touch multitouch technology WM5 device? The interface is still based on on a 5 year design philosophy. The only way WM6 would acutally make this device special is that the interface was totally redesigned and the WM engine took a back seat, kinda like a "Shell" (ha Steve, I said it!).
Boy Jerry you are being very postive about it.. Lol
Apple doesn't have to rush. A Windows Mobile LG phone is not going to have people calling Cingular, or any carrier 6 months before asking to be put on a waiting list. Plus, the phone doesn't have iTunes.

The iPhone is more than just a touch sensitive device. It's going to be a whole different user experience. WM6 is just more of the same.
