finally got around to listening to this podcast. I have one question for you guys. Why should MS invest in WM?
Since they aren't making handsets they probably aren't charging the OEM's a ton for using their software. Seems to me they push WM to get more people on exchange servers. Well if they can get the same effect by licensing to apple and others why spend more of their $$$ competing with Apple and RIM

jfl I hear ya.. For some reason I got caught up at the end of the show. When the recording stopped I told Steve and Mick I didnt know what hit me..

"I hope it won't because the lack of competition will put us in this same position again."
Good point Wyatt, that is the main reason why I am hoping that Android will bring something worthwhile to the table, to keep the competition going.

"What cracks me up, is that MS claims they are only software, however, that is EXACTLY where the problem IS. The software, it's stinkin' up the joint!! lol It needs to be more stable, stable stable, stable. Why don't they get this?? Although, I do not know how well the stability may have improved with 6.1, but that should have been one of those things that is given to us via the Windows Update cp.
Another thing to consider is that the hardware mfrs. just refuse to release hardware that is appropriate for the OS. I mean 200 MHz, 128/64MB, for cryin' out loud??!! That is just a recipe for disaster, which is what people have been seeing. That is one thing that Apple did right with the iPhone, hardware-wise, they created what was necessary to make the iPhone work quickly as a closed device out of the box."
I've stated similar comments about WM devices on other sites more than 3 years ago and it's amazing that only since the introduction of the iPhone that some people are finally waking up. I hope that Apple continues to evolve the iPhone effectively forcing MS and OEMs to start doing a better job.
If Apple does come out with a 32GB iPhone then more people may leave the WM camp which wouldn't be good at all. That coupled with software and MS Exchange could very well be a knockout blow to WM. I hope it won't because the lack of competition will put us in this same position again.
Great show Dave, and Happy 8th.

Reevester,
I would be careful about making a pre-judgement on at least the performance of 6.1. If you are basing your comment on the fact Steve said it performed "slower", remember that was using a pre-released ROM found on XDA. I have heard more than a few XDA memembers say that a 6.1 rom for the Touch Cruise has been pretty speedy.
As for features, yeah pretty boring. However, there is the threaded SMS which was only natively available on WM Pro devices on the Treo 750.
Oh and btw, people hem-and-haw about the iPhone not having cut and paste? Guess what? The smartphone platform just just got that functionality built into the OS in 6.1. How long did it take MS?

Windows 6.1 didnt really blow me away with the list of features though the podcast shed some good light on how it felt and performed!!

Yahoo's claim regarding the browser is bunk/hype.
You definitely have my attention with that MiniNote announcement. It may just be my next laptop!
Congrats, on the 8 year mark again!
