Kindle 2 revealed to have SIM Card slot

Immediately after receiving a new Kindle 2 this morning, iFixit began dissecting the unit. What they found was, "an outline of a SIM card with empty headers."

This brings about some interesting rumors. Two of which are that Amazon may have left this SIM space for "devolpment and debugging", or that Amazon plans to disperse the Kindle 2 internationally.

The Sony reader has a external memory slot. Books can't be viewed directly but can be moved to and from external memory.

The original Kindle had all sorts of hidden features. It would be interesting to see if any hidden features on the Kindle 2 access a SIM card. (At some point someone will attached a SIM card adapter to the board.)

I thought long and hard about getting one of these. Unfortunately, the lack of a color screen and the unavailability of books and magazines I read is holding me back.
