We told ya! Deepfish available kinda..

We originally posted this story back in January and looks like our Microsoft informant once again tipped us off correctly and we were able to scoop you 3 months early. That being said Microsoft has officially announced the beta

We are excited to announce public availability of the Deepfish technology preview from Microsoft Live Labs.  Deepfish is a new type of mobile information browsing experience, aimed at preserving the rich layout and full form of documents on mobile devices while providing novel ways of effectively navigating that content on small screens.  Deepfish's unique interface enables you to zoom in and out of page, quickly getting to the areas you are interested in without screen length after screen length of scrolling.  And because the layout is preserved, navigation menus, lists of search results or news headlines, and other elements that might have been bent so thoroughly to fit the usual single column layout that they were no longer legible can now be browsed simply and easily.  A consequence of Deepfish's multi-resolution approach to browsing pages is that it loads a thumbnail of pages initially and then only what is needed for more detail when requested or in the background as you browse the initial the view, resulting in substantially quicker load times for most pages.

The preview is available for download now for Windows Mobile 5.0+ devices.  There are a limited number of slots available, and they will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.  So, give it a try, and don't forget to let us know what you think about Deepfish.

Please note Microsoft has already cut off the beta testers (figures).. So you can sign up and be notified for the next round

I got the CAB from somewhere and loaded it. well...it didn't do anything other than scroll up and down. none of the links were active and the zoom didn't work. I am on a Treo 700w.
Copycats are at it again. When will they think original
can someone post the CAB file? MS says they are out of slots whatever the hell that means?!?!
Reminds me of Thunderhawk
Nice browser. Seems like an excat replica of what the Nokia browser does. The only issue that neither this or the Nokia browser accuraetly seems to addres sis the extra steps that it will take a browse the site (get there, zoom, find cursor, click and go).

While I like it (its a neat idea), I'd love to see something like this with gesture-based navigating around the page (at least for touch screened devices) and support for those websites that do write mobile friendly web pages.
I hope it can properly support Java, CSS, and Flash, otherwise it's just another POS mobile browser like all the others out there. I've yet to find a decent mobile browser that can let me login to my Sirius account and stream over the web. Yeah, there's some pocket apps out there that claim to be able to do that, like SiriCE, but they all suck and don't really work.
Oh come now Dave, I did that with PIE and Opera and it was a pain in the neck. What good is a browser if it can't replace PIE? I would hope the developers of Deepfish understand the requirement to display mobile versions of websites, especially on a mobile device.
JNGold I can just launch Pocket IE :)
Hmmm...looks like you are viewing web pages in IE6 Desktop mode. Is there the ability to switch to PIE mode? Otherwise, you will not get the mobile versions of sites.
That looks great, tell us more!!!!
Fantastic! Love the experience of being able to scroll, zoom and see the entire page!
Just tell me WHEN :(
Shh.. I can't tell you... ;)
Phone Edition version also?
