I hear ya Dave. My only point was from a personal point of view as we have discussed the pros/cons of various devices thru the years we have known each other.

My point is that I have to buy it so I can talk intelligently about it right? If I just make assumptions its not fair to the reader. I will also buy an iPhone like I did prior..

I had the touch dual with the 20 key keypad and I hated the keys so I tried various software keyboards and touchpal was one of them. I also had an iPod touch at the same time and the touchpal was way inferior and much less accurate in my opinion. I am planning on getting a touch soon just to keep in with windows mobile so I will investigate these keyboards again.

"We'll have to see once people get their hands on it and use it in real world applications."
From my sources, I have heard that there are those that are EXTREMELY unhappy with the Diamond's battery life from "real world useage".
"Because I like the UI on the Diamond.. It can be one touch.. I HATE STYLUS"
Dave, I can honestly say I have not once needed the stylus on the Touch Cruise unless I was playing a game like Solitaire.
Plus, as far as the success of this device..I highly doubt that it will get much market penetration here in the US...unless T-Mo picks up the US version. I don't think AT&T will carry this because: 1) too close of a device to the iPhone and 2) because when AT&T released their new data plans, they had mentioned that they would no longer carry any smartphone devices without a keyboard (obviously excluding the iPhone). That being said...an over 800 buck unsubsidized device won't do that well here and is relegated to Touch Cruise status. Of course, over the pond is a different story with carriers jumping at the bit to get this device (ahem....O2/Orange).

You hit the nail on the head shoey5, people all too often confuse the battery charge amount with the overall charge cycle battery life. The other critical components that affect the battery life are the circuitry's hardware efficiency and the software power usage profile that is implemented for the power consuming components.
I also agree that the size difference is a big deal for alot of folks who want to be able to use the device one-handed.

Not everyone likes a 3.5 inch screen that makes the size of the device bigger. The iPhone is an awesome device but for me, I've been looking, hoping and praying that a device like the Touch Diamond would come out, all the features in a very tiny form factor. I've used a lot of 2.8 inch devices and the screen is more than acceptable, add 640x480 to boot (which is more than viewable) and it's just an awesome device. Similar thickness as an iPhone with a smaller form factor.
As for battery size, it will be intresting to see how it performs but if you look at HTC's website, the device has longer talk/standby time than other devices with 1500mAh batteries. You can't really compare the device based on the battery size, it really depends on how much the components are sucking from it. Looks like the Touch Diamond needs less power to run so a 900mAh batter (as per HTC's claim) may out last their other devices. We'll have to see once people get their hands on it and use it in real world applications.

I find that the Stylus is great for many things but I believe the UI should not completely depend on it as it adds steps to the process of getting to where you want to be.
Chris, have you used TouchPal. I am using it on Wing with only a 2.5" screen and it works great. My fingers are about average, and I like using it better than the iPhone keyboard on my clients iTouch and iPhones.

"And I liked the iphone which didnt have a keyboard but at the time no exchange support killed it"
Then why didn't you pull the trigger on the Cruise? :)

The problem with the Diamond for me will be mostly battery life but I think the touch keypad on a 2.8" screen will not be the easiest experience, the iPhone has a 3.5" screen and its just workable for me

I give him about 2 weeks.
