HTC not planning a WM6 Upgrade for Current Devices?

XDA Developer forum member swartb received an email regarding a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for his current HTC P3600. Basically, HTC responded with a reply that no upgrade path would be offered for current devices, leaving only newly released devices getting some WM6 love.

This is in stark contrast to what other OEM's (and even mobile carriers) have initially stated regarding upgrading existing devices.

Anybody remember what Gerald Ford told NYC back in the 70's that made the front page of the newspapers? Kind of the same thing here.

Bad news indeed if this comes to pass

The fact that MS is exercising their right to defend themselves against overt piracy is meaningless. Secondly, what WM6 device that is like the wizard, and is currently available are you referring too?
Uhhh Yeah, but WM6 phones coming out now aren't ANY different hardware wise than wm5 phones, and people were running WM6 on Wizards with 200Mhz OMAP processors (and claiming it ran faster than WM5).

This stings even more, as Microsoft just had XDA Developers take down all of their custom ROMs.
I don't think that anyone is officially releasing a COMPLETE WM6 update to existing owners of converged devices. I could be wrong, but I won't believe it until I see it. There is just too much added code for it to crammed into 128 MB of ROM and certainly too much for it to run reliably on just 64 MB of RAM. I would tend to think that any updates that are being offered are taking out components to achieve that goal.
However, it looks like the TMobile Dash is getting upgraded to WM6 per some articles/pictures. You would think HTC is driving that technical process - not just TMobile.
Tac,

You will find that the minority is the companies that do offer an upgrade. If you will not by a device because the company fails to deliver an upgrade, the choices you have for your next device will certainly be very slim.
They had best pony up the upgrade or I will get rid of any HTC device I own (8125, 8525, 2125 etc etc) and will never purchase from them again.
Samsung and LG are providing WM6 upgrades for their existing customers?
This is completely ridiculous! HTC better do what is right as Samsung and LG are now on their coat tail!
