Wireless you could have submitted a video too.. Not too hard :)
|
|
I thought Steve Trotto was going to win. Not because of his "popularity", because the video he posted was funny as hell. Plan And Simple.
|
|
It seems to me that this was more of a popularity contest. I wish I would have known that when I entered.
|
|
Just to clarify, the Epix review unit I "had in my hands" belongs to AT&T.

Mike don't give him the time of day. All they are trying to do is stir things up. They obviously are not part of the community and all they like to do is complain. We know that Dave is honest.
If these guys focused this much energy on the contest instead of whining they probably would have won.
|
|
Like I said, you could have got a bunch of your friends to register and vote for your video.(assuming you did enter the contest) Another suggestion is to be more active in the forums and on the site to get your name well known.(since that is one of your complaints) You could even use Twitter to get your name known and try to get votes. A lot of the active members of the MT community use Twitter. Of course those are all suggestions.
Keep in mind there is still a Treo Pro up for grabs with NO video entries yet.
|
|
Yes Mr Herald. You are right but hose weren't the original rules. Plus you just helped our argument. If the community votes, who do you think is going to get the majority of the votes? Obviously people involved with the site. The winner was supposed to be announced on sunday at 7am, the rules were then switched around 8am.
Quite frankly this Dave's site and he can do whatever he likes. But if you want to build up your community, this surely isn't a good PR move. First you change the rules super late. Then you have guys win that are associated with the site. One of which already had one of the Epix in his hands. Hmmmmmm.....
Think about how that looks to everybody else. Again, its his site and he can do as he pleases. But I'm sure some of the community and definitely some sponsors see this and have to agree with us......
|
|
Well you could have got a bunch of your friends to register and then vote for your video. I think this contest was very fair. Dave picked finalist on Sunday and the MT community voted on the winners.
|
|
I think I have to agree with rigged. The problem here isn't the vote Mr. Trotto, its that the rules were changed at the last minute. The winner was supposed to be announced on sunday at 7am. Then all of a sudden, it was switched to a vote for monday. That's the issue. Not to mention, guys involved with the site will always win votes because people know who they are and will get their votes.
|
|
Nice job, Bill and Steve. Enjoy those Epixes! Or Epices. Whatever.
|
|
Good point Steve... you can't win in you don't enter! ... Wait a Treo Pro!! OMG... *grabs camera to make entry*.. oh wait I don't much care for Treo's oh well on second thought. LOL but valid point you cannot win if you don't try!

Dave made it clear that everyone could enter the contest. He also did not pick the winner. I think voting was fair. Hell I was begging for votes on Twitter all day. Rigged you can bitch all you want but at least we entered the contest.
There are still more prizes available including a Treo Pro that nobody has submitted a video for.
|
|
I think this was fair.. one vote per person period. Otherwise I would have let a bot lose on the site and voted for me like a million time. :-) Fair is fair.

David - Suppose TWiT had a giveaway for an iPhone that you wanted, and you spent time and thoughtfully thought out a comment in hopes of winning. Half way through the giveaway, Leo changes the rules on how the winner is decided. At the end of the giveaway, fellow podcasters John C. Dvorak and Patrick Norton are the winners. How would you feel?

choose giblet225, it looks like he really wants it and he's creative enough to make a poem. he's trying really hard and posted 3 times in 3 different ways. pick giblet225... to me its best choice.

Ha! I have to comment here since Steve's video may not be around to much longer, but it's absolutly funny. When I saw his name I was thinking "Isn't this the guy that regularly bashes Windows Mobile? This can't be who I think it is." That was address in the first few moments of the video.
I can't believe Steve is a closet fanboy!

I'd like to win this because its the one WM device I've heard Dave rave about, so you know its good. I had a poor experience with the HP 910 and the battery life was horrible- if the Epix's battery is as good as Dave says it is, it could finally be 'the one'.
|
|
How long will the poll be up?
|
|
I think incase222 had the creativity won. He had a very big comment that explained why he wanted it and explained because of his past phones. also he used (looked like) markers colored pencils and markers. mobility today and the (your one stop source for mobility news)
Showing their phones to be a good canidate for the epix was the only person to do.
thanks, it says pick the winner... thanks!

Samsung is by far one of my favorite brands when it comes to cell phones. They are reliable and I love their functionality. I don't own one but i would very much like to. The epix is my kind of phone. SAMSUNG FTW!!!!

I WANT THIS SOOO BAD! i posted a comment, video, AND A POEM!
|
|
These videos are getting really funny!!!
|
|
My reasons are simple. I'm a fan of Windows Mobile and this phone would come in real handy for me to keep in touch with my daughter when she goes away to college in the fall. They do grow up fast so enjoy them while their young.
|
|
I Would like that Epix because it has a lot of features and Its going to be Windows Mobile! The features are going to be more than the current phone i have now. I would like it and need it because of how much money it is to upgrade.
Thank you!

I would like to win because I would love to touch that keyboard. Being an iphone owner it's been a while. It's been a real pain keeping up with business e-mails without typing witth bad grammar. Also just testing out the new features of this phone. A phone with a mouse, I have to try that!
|
|
The video responses definitely will get points! But there are some great comments! So far this is going to be close.

SAMSUNG EPIX IS A GREAT DEVICE!
Why Do I want the Epix and what would you do with it?
Let me start to answer these questions by first explaining about my phone history. I have had 2 phones before. I have had the Samsung R225m and then I upgraded to the Nokia 6010. I have had the Samsung R335m for about a year and didn’t like it because it was to small. Then I got the Nokia 6010. After 2 years with that phone, Now the 6010’s battery died. Now I am forced to use my Samsung. This phone stinks so bad! Ill make a video, below to show you and im not kiddin!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXFc0sLwDCk
Please Help!
Now this phone that I have now is a waste of time and money because it’s very slow and there is nothing AT&T can do about it.
I would LOVE the Epix because of all the features that is has and all the features that it supports.
With the OS & Platform Windows Mobile 6.1 is GREAT because I like the windows mobile experience because its great to have and I want to get away from all the other Os's out there like the iphone.
I would like the Camera. I don’t have a camera and I would like to have the ability to use it to send pictures to my family. All the time when I go to a party and we are all leaving, and we take pictures and they ask about, can I send it to your phone? My response unfortunately is no, I do not have a picture phone.
On my phone I have to go to a direct link, and I don’t have a plan for that.
All the features are great to have and I would love them very much. I would appreciate it and I would thank god that I have a EPIX. I cannot get a good phone now because its hard for me to do research because of my working hours. This phone fits the bill and I would like to use this and share with my family and friends. I can finally say that I have a camera phone and they can send pictures to it. Also my kids can SEND ME PICTURES!
I feel left out because I am not able to receive my children’s pictures from school. When I am away on a trip for work, and I get a link. I have to wait until I get to a computer, which can take many hours.
GPS, MAPS, the optic mouse, windows mobile, laptop capabilities and other things open up more features and extras to myself and it would benefit me for work.
Since I am a business worker and I help my kids with school projects, the Epix has the Microsoft viewer where I can view pictures and other text. When my middle school-er does an essay, he can send it to my phone and I can help him out and give him suggestions.
Since this phone has a full QWERTY keypad I can type like a pro and help the kids!
There are many more features that I am not going to talk about this comment is big as it is.
Here is My YouTube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXFc0sLwDCk
Hope you see it and Like it! YouTube Videos are worth more point’s right?
Thanks!

Like most/if not all Samsung products just ROCK!!! >>> http://www.samsungmobileusa.com/Epix.aspx It looks so damn sexy, girls will admire it and not me =0/
After my HP6515 hit the pavement, I've lost my hands on with Windows Mobile. The Epix would be a good candidate for use when I need to switch to the Widows Mobile side for work related matters.
The added FUN ENTERTAINMENT features are an added plus.
Did I mention that the Epix is damn sexy?!?

I would like an Epix because I feel handcuffed by my current Windows Mobile Phone. I just purchased an LG KS20 to aid me in the social media revolution. I had no idea a virtual keyboard could be so cumbersome. Since I just spent so much money on this new phone I can't get rid of it just yet. SXSW is on the horizon and would love a new phone to be able to participate with my peers.

What a coincidence. I was looking on ebay about a nice smartphone for my daughter, a cheap one and some link open about this website giving away a cellphone. I would like to win the cellphone because this is the first time my daughter and me get separated because she's going to college soon and im very worry about her being by herself without any communication. This phone would be a great present for her, she can stay in touch with me by e-mail, sms, calls and pretty much everything that is connected. I hope you guys can give me chance to win this giveaway and make my daughter happy with a nice smartphone like that one. Thanks.

I would like the Samsung EPIX because I am tired of settling for whatever I can afford at the time. I have had a number of smart phones but never one that is a current "hot" device at the time. I usually pick one up as the prices drop or go on sale.

My i-607 is over two years old. I was planning on running it into the ground. Well, earlier this week, I almost did when a friend spilled a drink all over it, rendering the keypad almost useless. I was debating between the Epix and the iPhone, and am comfortable with Windows Mobile, so I don't see a reason to switch to the iPhone. Plus, I really won't mind having a phone with WiFi capabilities since I don't get a strong signal at the house.
|
|
I would love an EPix. I have a cheapy cell phone and my palm pilot died this year. This phone would be great because it integrates all the technology I need in one device. I am dying to try a touchpad phone. It looks like and excellent product.

Like many before me i'd like to thank Mobility Today for all it does; you keep me informed and ahead of the very fast paced game. My family, like some others, is struggling in this tough financial slump; im going to college and live with my family of 5 so there is no money for expensive technology. Fortunetly four out of five in the family got new phones before times got really bad, leaving out my sister who has been using a Pantech PG-C3B for years. Because we are splitting bills in the house I have become very proud of my sister who before liked to spend just like any other college girl. She's been beging my father to get a new phone for over a while (her phone really does suck) but because the phone bill is under his name he doesn't let her thinking that if anything happens there will be no expensive expenditures on any of his papers. Just in case. To get to the point I want the epix so that I might give it to my sister to enjoy the technology improvments phones have made since she got her p.o.s phone. (that was a phone I was trying to get her to buy months ago but she waited too long). I know David C. said something about no corny answers but I wasn't trying to make it sound sappy I truly kent every thing I said including being proud of my sister and that is something that is very hard to get me to say.
Once again thanks Mobility Today for the opportunities

I'm interested in the Samsung Epix because I'm wondering why Dieter Bohn hates the mouse pointer so much. At least Samsung is trying to push the envelope in terms of Windows Mobile devices. It can't ALL come from HTC. Also, it's nice to see a new device come out that isn't another black slab. I've recently gotten hooked on Twitter, and the Samsung Epix would allow me to respond as quickly as possible when Dave sends out a message. After all...
The Epix seems like it would help
when Dave Ciccone sends a tweet.
You know that's how it's best to reach us,
all the geeks out on the street.
He lets us know his son's OK
after getting stitches on his head.
He lets us know when he has posted
a new review, and then it's read
By all the mobiletech fanatics
from New Jersey clear to Washington State.
The Epix is the machine, I think,
that will help to keep me up to date.
...so a new phone would be pretty cool.
|
|
David,
Thanks partially to your accolades for the Samsung i907/AT&T "Epix", I switched from a Palm Treo 650 to the Epix
in mid-November. I am very happy with the phone. Most of all I like that I can be productive in business and use
the device one-handed.
I have added the following applications and tweaks to make the phone even more useful and fun:
Windows Live Mesh - Wirelessly sync's my photos and files between my Epix and my home computer
FlexMail - Allows me to get e-mail "pushed" to my phone via IMAP Idle, and reply via my chosen identity
phoneAlarm - An app that really fixes the e-mail notifications, and lets me customize LED alerts by color
ceTwit - An elegant Twitter client. Follow me @MyTechLife
Sling Player Mobile - I was a beta tester for the new version which supports the Epix's 320x320 screen
3G Only Mode - I have found the settings in Admin Studio that let me "lock" the phone onto WCDMA, so that the phone doesn't switch down to the lower-quality signal of GSM/EDGE or GPRS. I also don't get the GSM noise in my speakers anymore - unlike some podcasts I've heard ;D
Evernote - Wirelessly brings my desktop notes to my phone
Google Maps - A fantastic mapping and directions application - now with street-view.
Opera 9.5 Browser - Zoom and scroll with your finger, just like Safari on the iPhone
Toggle Finger Mouse - At first I didn't like the finger/thumb mouse on the Epix. Now I use it almost exclusively. It allows such precision in selecting items on the screen. When I want to toggle the mouse pad to a 4-way scroll, I've mapped my calendar key to do that.
So now that I've written a mini review of the Epix as I wait for the Mobility Today full review, you may wonder why I would like to win an Epix. Now my wife wants an Epix, and Valentine's Day coming up in a few weeks would be a perfect time to give her one. She's put up with me spending months tinkering with it: On family outings I've asked her to drive a few times so I can watch the blue dot on the Google Map follow our exact position. I change the channels and watch our home TV on Sling Player Mobile. I switch to Test Mode to see the signal strength and which cell site my phone is communicating with.
Our wife's put up with our geeky behavior. Please choose me as a winner of an Epix so she can understand why men have a passion for our mobile devices.
Thank you.

Why would I like the Samsung Epix? I would like the Samsung Epix because Its a great phone that has a lot to offer!
Mobility Today is a great site and I tell all my friends about it. I am not sure WHEN I AM GOING TO GET MY PRIZE, but I am not sure whats up with that. BUT the Epix is a great phone that is a Fabulose device. Its amazing and My brother needs this phone dearly.
He has a Samsung phone that the LCD screne is going on him.
He is in college and he cant get to the phone store. I would like to try to win him something nice so he can relax because i Feel bad about that he has no phone while in college.
The phone has great features and its a great platform to use. I am really excited for this giveaway because its a phone that my family can actually use and its amazing that its going to be a give away.
There is no doubt that this phone is going to be taken for granted. Treatment of ALL phone is in mint codition. We are all good with cell phones and it is reflected with this phone.
This would be his second Smartphone, the FIRST Smartphone that works. We have AT&T. Its a match and I hope this goes well and works with out plan.
We cannnot afford another cellphone because this economy is dragging us down and is stopping us from spending money on tech.
I love tech very much and anything mobile. I think the LIGHTS and HEAT is more important that a new cellphone. But this giveaway can hopefully help us out!
Thanks a lot!

Why would I want the Samsung Epix?
I would like the Samsung Expix so I can replace my Samsung D407. The D407 is very old and has done everything that I asked it to. Its time for me to get a new phone.
I Love samsung phones period. I stand by there name because IF something goes wrong, SAMSUNG will help me out and NOT leave me in the Dust.
I would like the EPIX because it would be my first Smartphone.
Yes there are people who are Moderators that are entering but I think the average civilian should be the winner here. After all you are giving back to the community. The people who post comments, talk in the forums and ask questions.
Having great Specs, Such as BUILT-IN GPS.
My phone now dies with in a day or two. It's not the best and the Epix has fixed this issue.
The thought of having a computer in your hand is my dream because I have never had a little PDA before. All my support with Mobility Today sure takes time and I would appreciate it GREATLY.
All the things like, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel cam, AGPS with AT&T Navigator, Video Share support , 320 x 320 2.5-inch touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard are great and I HAVE NEVER HAD THE CHANGE TO HAVE.
Features of this nature other people had and say that thay had a phone like this and want a new one, I think the phone should go to someone who knows what there doing and would appreciate it Greatly!
Thanks Mobility Today!

I would like to win the epix becuase no matter how hard to try other form factors, QWERTY candy bar style is what i love. The epix combines Form with Function. I loved my blackjack II, and now the epix takes on a similar form factor only with a flush touch screen and Windows Mobile Professional. The 320x320 resolution screen is the highest available in this form factor with windows mobile professional. I feel the optical mouse might be hard to get used to , but will serve me well. I can use my exchange email, TomTom software with built in GPS, Excellent battery life! This phone would most likely end up my primary phone. I would have tried it already but AT&T's full retail is very expensive and I don't qualify for a rebate for 1 1/2 years. Please, once again, help me out :)

This device will keep my world optimized and organized. The features are robust and I love the battery life it provides. Samsung have always made solid devices and this is no exception. Samsung Epix!! Oh yes I would love to win such a fine device. Really, who doesn't want the newest phone from Samsung. This thing would fit my life perfectly as it would allow me to stay in touch with work, friends and of course Mobility Today! I can just see it now listening to Mobility Today podcast, checking out the website while on the go! How could I do this, well this phone has every feature you could want: Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, 3.6Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel cam, AGPS with AT&T Navigator, Video Share support ( this is cool), 320 x 320 2.5-inch touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard.

I really think that this is the device that will bring me back to Windows Mobile.
Over the past couple of years I have not come across a device that I would consider putting my iPhone down for. I like the design of the Epix and Samsung builds a quality device. In a market where HTC pumps out plastic devices that all look the same Samsung is a breath of fresh air. The fact that Samsung is taking the time to innovate by adding a mouse/cursor is very appealing.
I'll admit it I am addicted the the iPhone. However I know that the iPhone has a lot of limitations. For all of the complaining that I have done about Windows Mobile it is still a more robust platform than the iPhone.
I want to give Windows Mobile a chance and I think that the Epix might be the device to bring me back.
I am a iPhoneaholic and the first step is admitting that I have a problem. Today I publicly stand before the MT community and admit that I have a problem.
I ask this fine community to help me overcome this addiction and become a productive member of the Windows Mobile community.
Winning the Epix will bring me back to WM and make me a better editor, moderator, podcaster, and a better person.
Help me Obiwan Ciccone your my only hope.....

I have always loved Samsung phones. My first cell phone was a Samsung and it was one of the most dependable phones I've ever used.
I was debating picking up an Epix simply because I want a different phone to use other than the iPhone.
I am a full-time college student with 99% of my money going to bills. Therefore it would take me forever to save up for the Epix. Being that it is a Windows Mobile phone it will allow me to appropriately receive email from my professors and stay on time of my game.
I also love Mobility Today and I feel this shows in the contributions I have made thus far. (this statement is not a pompous one whatsoever.)
Thanks

I'd love the Epix so I could replace my dying Blackjack 1...
---another round of layoffs are coming around at my company, so I have to watch my $
---we had a death in the family and have been running 2 houses while the estate settles, and AMEX was jerky enough to slice our credit even though we have an excellent FICO score all because we charged $5K to run the estate's house (in a 2-month period)
---my aunt passed away yesterday - on the anniversary of my father's death
all of this is true... so it would be a nice gift.

This samsung is one of the best smartphones out on the market. Its is one of the few BIG phones that get good battery life and has amazing features such as the optical mouse. Now, this is not about why i would get this phone, its about what i would do with it. If i had this every feature would be used, GPS for my car, email for my work, and that beautiful QWERTY keyboard can be used for SMS and IM to stay in touch with my family and friends. The samsung epix is not only innovative and convenient, it is also (to me) a blackberry killer. This phone takes the responsive touch screen of a Storm, the spacious, easy to use keyboard of a bold, and the simplicity of a curve to build up a phone that rises above the rest.

I'd love to have any phone from Samsung. They put a great deal of effort in quality and the customizations they do to their Windows Mobile devices make them stand out from many other Windows Mobile devices. I'm also a die hard Windows Mobile fan. I love the flexibility and extensibility of the WM operating system and over the past few months I've been trying to go a step beyond just being a fan of Windows Mobile and become a contributor by writing articles on WM programming and assisting others in WM development forums. The epix would make a great device with which to extnd upon this trend. I understand the device has much better video performance than the typical WM phone. I'd really like to get into developing DirectX and video based applications but I can't do that with my current hardware.
Despite being a Windows Mobile fan I have to say that I've come across some disappointing attributes in some WM phones such as the one that I have now. The firmware on my current device has a few known bugs but AT&T has EOLed the device so there's no hope of ever seeing a fix; rather the only way to get fixed firmware is to get a new phone. :-( The Epix would make for a nice new start and resolve the current conflicts that I have. I would love to own one.

I'll sit this one out.
Whoever wins I hope you show off the device to all your online friends. I also hope you're a nice young lady fond of plaid miniskirts and perhaps doing my yard-work in said attire.
Thanks!

I would like to win the Samsung Epix so that I can use it to download and listen to the msmobiles podcasts every week. For some reason, the msmobiles podcasts seem to revolt at the thought of streaming to my iPhone.

I would like to win the Samsung Epix so can give to a family member that really needs it but does not want to spend the money on a device such as this. They feel as if they cannot afford it at this time. They have been saying this for over a year now.

Please, send me Samsung EPIX! Why I would like to have it? Many reasons, some of them are:
--- it is one of few Windows Mobile phones in which Vito Audio Notes works properly and thus it allows recording of phone calls on both sides!! In other Windows Mobile phones only one side of phone conversations can be recorded. In EPIX: both!
--- it is very easy and comfortable to use with just one hand
--- the touchpad below display is very nice and you have a feeling like you wold have tiny computer in your hand
--- it has built-in GPS
--- it has good battery life, so you don't have to worry to carry charger with you
Shortly speaking: for people who like this form factor it is a very good smartphone.
