Verizon selects LiMo as core OS

I was lucky enough to participate in a call with Verizon Wireless where they stated they would join a consortium working on a Linux-based mobile operating system expected to rival a mobile system being developed by a group headed by Google. During the call today VZW stated they would continue to carry Windows Mobile devices along with RIM and Palm OS BUT stated the LiMo will be the core OS going forward.. I could not get an exact percentage total as to how many LiMo devices we will see in the next two years but from what I heard it should be significant.

I also think this announcement is a significant statement to the Android OS that wireless providers are doubting that the OS could be ready for prime time anytime soon!

I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
No remember Jerry.. Android is more locked that LiMo. One of the reasons for VZW not going with Android was that there was no open in changing the core OS where LiMO they sit on the board to determine what can be added. To me LiMO is a better solution for VZW
Pardon my ignorance regarding mobile Linux platforms...but will applications developed for Android be able to run on the LiMo platform unaltered?
No jerry I asked that question and it will be open..
Strange. Why Verizon persist on this course of action? Didn't they say they were pursuing a more "open network"? Even though this "so-called" Linux platform should be open, it's guaranteed that Verizon will lock it down in ways that will stifle application development for the platform.
